Our recent visit to B*H in December was the first specialist visit outside of the neuromuscular clinic that we’ve been routinely visiting yearly. We met with endocrinology for bone health due to noted osteoporosis from spine and hip X-rays he had done last year and then an orthopedic surgeon to talk about a coxa valga hip deformity as well.
He had to have a bone density scan and was able to sit still long enough to image his spine and hip but will try when he’s a little older for the full body scan. Over the summer we attempted a brain MRI too but, same thing. We will try that again later as well.
Although the visit was nerve racking, we didn’t get told of any immediate necessary action and left excited to try some new things. The surgeon wrote us a prescription for hippo-therapy (horse back riding) and told us to get Riley up on the mountain for adaptive skiing this year. Both of these activities will be good for building core strength but also just really fun!
We got in with a local barn and friend to get him on a horse. It was tough with all of the layers and feeling unstable but he got on the mini horse twice and left happy, proud and excited! We will try again soon. Molly loved the horses too!
