🌟 HIP Week Spotlight: Celebrating Lance J. Smith, MPA, RHIA, CHPS, CCS-P, CHC, CHPC, CCEP 🌟
As we celebrate Health Information Professionals (HIP) Week, we're proud to shine a spotlight on Lance J. Smith, a nationally respected and well‑rounded HIM leader whose career exemplifies dedication, integrity, and advocacy.
With 29 years of experience spanning coding, health information management, and healthcare compliance, Lance brings a wealth of knowledge and perspective to every role he serves. His career journey includes impactful positions such as Coding Manager, HIM Director, Revenue Integrity Auditor, Associate Director of Audits, and System Privacy Officer—each contributing to his deep understanding of the healthcare revenue cycle and regulatory environment.
Currently, Lance serves as Compliance Officer for St. Peter’s Health Partners Medical Associates, supporting more than 900 providers across multiple specialties. In this role, he plays a critical part in ensuring ethical practices, regulatory compliance, and high standards of patient care across a complex healthcare system.
Lance’s commitment to the profession extends far beyond his day‑to‑day work. He has been actively involved with AAPC, AHIMA, and the Health Care Compliance Association (HCCA), holding leadership roles at both state and local levels. He currently serves as NYHIMA’s Advocacy Director, championing the voice of HIM professionals across New York State—and we are excited to celebrate his newly elected position as an AHIMA Delegate, where he will help shape the future of HIM nationwide.
Through decades of service, leadership, and volunteerism, Lance has not only advanced the profession—but has also been a dedicated mentor, supporting and inspiring the next generation of HIM and compliance professionals.
