Since it's "Pi Day" AND National Nutrition Month, here's a reminder: healthy eating doesn’t have to be complicated!

Sometimes the best changes are the simplest ones:
-Add one vegetable to dinner.
-Choose water or seltzer over soda.
-Keep healthy snacks like fruits and nuts available.
-Plan one balanced meal a day.
-Cook at home when you’d normally order take-out.
-Challenge yourself with new foods and flavors!
-Progress beats perfection every time.

Whitney Young Health is here to support you with resources, education, and care that fits your real life.

Public transportation plays a vital role in access to healthcare. For many patients, especially those in underserved communities, reliable transit can make the difference between getting to an appointment or missing critical care. Partnerships with organizations like the CDTA help ensure more people across our community can reach the healthcare services they need.

Today, some of our team had the opportunity to attend a discussion on the future of mobility in the Capital Region hosted at the Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA) headquarters in Albany.

Our Chief Development Officer, Kindra McHale, and Chief of Staff, Will Backes, joined community leaders to see Frank Annicaro, CEO of CDTA, reflect on the organization’s recent successes, outlined key initiatives underway, and shared his vision for the future of transportation across the region.

Thank you to CDTA for hosting this important discussion and helping to shape the future of our community.

Strength isn’t just about pushing through. It's also about giving your body what you need to heal, move, and thrive.
National Nutrition Month is a great reminder that nutrition and movement work best as a team. The food you eat supports your muscles, joints, energy, and recovery, especially if you are dealing with pain, healing from an injury or surgery, or trying to get back to feeling like yourself.
Physical Therapy can help improve mobility, rebuild strength, and reduce discomfort, but fueling your body properly can help support that progress even more.
If pain or limited movement is getting in your way, Whitney Young Health is here to help you take that next step forward.

When life gets stressful, nutrition is often one of the first things that gets pushed aside. Skipping meals, stress eating, turning to comfort foods, or relying on quick snacks can affect your mood, energy, focus, and even sleep.

During National Nutrition Month, remember this: taking care of your mental health and your nutrition go hand in hand.

If stress, anxiety, or depression has been weighing on you, Whitney Young Health is here for you.

Wishing peace and good health to all those observing.

We are so proud to represent Whitney Young Health at CHCANYS Advocacy Day here in Albany, standing alongside community health centers from across the state to champion patient care and sustainable funding in the 2026 New York State budget.

We’re especially proud of our very own Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Deborah Vasquez, for speaking at this event and helping elevate the voices of the patients and communities we serve.

Community Health Centers are essential to a strong, healthy New York. Today, we came together to ensure our patients’ needs remain a priority.

Healthy eating starts with a healthy smile.

If tooth pain, sensitivity, or dental issues are holding you back from eating the foods your body needs, it may be time to schedule a dental visit. Fruits, vegetables, and other nutritious foods are harder to enjoy when your mouth hurts, and oral health is closely connected to overall health.

During National Nutrition Month, remember that your dental health is part of the bigger picture.

Whitney Young Health Dental Services are here to help you protect your smile and your health.

Your health is worth it. Let’s make March a fresh start.

Our Story

The Whitney M. Young, Jr. Health Center (WYH) was established in 1971 to provide access to consistent quality healthcare without regard to income. Today, WYH offers primary medical, dental and behavioral health services to over 20,000 men, women and children at sites throughout our region. We operate health centers in Albany, Troy and Watervliet. Our School-Based Health Centers provide medical care in three of the City School Distict of Albany’s elementary schools as well as the Watervliet City School District. Our mobile health unit, Whitney on Wheels, provides medical care at schools, public housing and community centers in Albany and Rensselaer counties. Through a collaborative dental program with the Healthy Capital District Initiative (HCDI), Seal a Smile delivers preventative dental care at schools throughout our community and has recently added on-site restorative care to over 52 schools.

Whitney Young Health’s mission is to provide Capital Region residents with access to consistent quality health care without regard to income. Our vision is to become the health care leader serving diverse populations in Albany and Rensselaer counties. Whitney Young Health is accredited by New York State Department of Health. Whitney Young Health has been recognized, for a third time, by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) as a Level 3 Patient-Centered Medical Home at both the Albany, Troy and Watervliet Health Centers. We have earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for Ambulatory Health Care and for Behavioral Health Care.

Our substance use disorder programs are licensed by New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS). Our Methadone Maintenance Treatment Program (MMTP) is also accredited by The Joint Commission. WYH is a member of the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC) and the Community Health Centers Association of New York State (CHCANYS).

Whitney Young Health serves over 20,000 annually, who are under or uninsured minorities living in poverty. Moreover, the conditions of high rates of unemployment and poverty; and the lack of health insurance cause higher rates of morbidity and consequent health disparities amongst WYH’s target patient population. Whitney Young Health works to alleviate barriers accessing care and augment its primary care services by providing transportation, translation, patient education, nutrition and case management services as well as by employing culturally diverse clinical and support staff. More than 8% of the diverse patient population reports a language other than English best serves them. To assist these patients, WYH employs Spanish and Russian interpreters and utilizes AT&T’s Language Line.
