We are proud to see the voices of two people we support at Living Resources highlighted in this great Altamont Enterprise commentary article, which argues why it’s time for New York to move away from allowing subminimum wages for people with disabilities:

Brendan and Abby’s stories are powerful reminders that employment is more than a job; it’s independence, confidence, and the opportunity to build a meaningful life. With the right supports, people with disabilities can thrive in their communities and workplaces.
At Living Resources, we see this every day. Through job coaching, skills training, and individualized supports, the people we support are not just working; they are contributing, growing, and achieving their goals.
Everyone deserves the opportunity to work, earn fair wages, and live as independently as possible. We support the pursuit of New York becoming an Employment First State, where working-age people with disabilities are employed in integrated, competitive jobs rather than subminimum wage jobs.
Following the original article, a response from NYSID was published to correct misunderstandings about its position on this issue and to provide additional context:

What remains clear is that we all remain committed to supporting each person on their unique path toward meaningful employment and a full life in the community.
