In partnership with The Success Map Initiative, Trinity Alliance of the Capital Region and our Jail Transition Program hosted a Second Chance Career Fair Thursday at Trinity Place Center. At a time when almost every organization has job openings they simply cannot fill, the fair brought together local employers and justice impacted individuals to make connections and hopefully create a new workforce development pipeline.
Everyone knows that it’s hard to find good employees right now. The talent pool is pretty thin, so employers have had to get more creative to find team members. This includes expanding the pool of workers that they consider beyond the normal subset.
Thursday’s event, attended by about 50 neighbors, was designed for individuals navigating reentry and others impacted by the justice system who are seeking meaningful employment. On-the-spot interviews were available.
This event came on the heels of a ready-for-work workshop called All About the Benjamins, which took place earlier this month. It was curated for individuals navigating reentry and helped them learn how to search for jobs, secure references, and build the skills necessary for the workplace.
Trinity Alliance is grateful to Success Map Initiative for its organizational efforts, and employers the City of Albany, Albany County, State Department of Health, Janitronics, Price Chopper Supermarkets, First Born Daughter Respite Services, SD Independent Living and the SEAT Center for their participation. More events are being planned for the future.
