Mr. Douglas M. Jones, 63, of Albany, Georgia departed this life on Monday, January 5, 2026 at his residence in Albany, Georgia.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2025 at 3:00 P.M. at Victory of Albany, 3250 Sylvester Road, Albany, Georgia 31705.
Douglas MacArthur Jones was born on July 17, 1963, at Tyndall Air Force Base in Florida, to Marie W. Jones and the late James A. Jones Sr. He departed this world suddenly on January 5, 2026, in Albany, Georgia. Although he was named after the former General and Chief of Staff of the United States Army, most people knew and loved him simply as Doug.
Douglas attended public school in Bristol, Connecticut, alongside his four siblings. Summers were often spent in Georgia with extended family, where cousins and siblings constantly surrounded him. As one of the middle children, Douglas naturally stepped into the role of protector, especially for his sister Jackie and his brothers James and Harold. If anyone was looking for trouble with his family, Douglas shut it down quickly just by showing up. His presence alone brought peace and reassurance.
Douglas was a light in every room. He loved music, and it was not uncommon to find him dancing to tunes from earlier eras. While the world shifted toward hip hop and rap, Doug held tightly to the classics of his generation. He had a deep creative spirit, expressed through music and art, but his greatest passion was culinary. He learned how to cook from his mother and how to grill from his father, quickly elevating both into something special. Doug was fearless in the kitchen, always willing to try a new recipe. He loved his time at the grill, and after enjoying one of his meals, you almost always needed a good nap. Above all, Doug was a die hard Dallas Cowboys fan. No other team compared, even during their losing seasons.
Doug loved the Lord. He spent time studying his Bible and faithfully attended online church. If you opened his Bible, you would find pages filled with handwritten scriptures and shorthand notes capturing the revelations of his thoughts. He welcomed biblical discussion and debate, enjoying conversations that challenged others to think more deeply and outside the box. In 2025, Doug moved to Albany, Georgia, with his longtime friend Noah. While he appreciated the warm weather, what mattered most to him was being close to his mother, sister, nephew, and extended family.
Douglas is survived by his mother, Marie Jones of Albany, Georgia; his brother, Harold Jones, and his wife Deborah of New Hampshire; his nephew, Joshua Jones of Albany; his niece, Jasmin Jones of Connecticut; and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, James A. Jones Sr.; his brother, James A. Jones Jr.; and his sister, Jacqueline Jones Gardner.
Meadows Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
