MHANYS was proud to present this past weekend at the Collegiate EMS Conference, hosted by Five Quad Ambulance at SUNY Albany.

It was a true highlight to connect with such passionate and driven student leaders, and it's inspiring to see mental health and wellness front and center in the future of EMS.

We were also honored to present alongside one of our New York State Department of Health EMS Fellows, Tom Corcoran, from the City of Watervliet Fire Department, who shared real-world insight from the field.

Applications are now open for the next cohort of the New York State EMS Mental Health Fellowship. If you are looking to build peer support, strengthen resilience, and lead wellness efforts in your agency, we encourage you to apply: bit.ly/4ttAaFS

April is Stress Awareness Month đź’š

Stress is a part of life, but it does not need to take over. This month, we’re encouraging all New Yorkers to pause, check in with themselves, and take small steps toward better mental wellbeing.

Whether it’s practicing mindfulness, reaching out for support, or simply taking a moment to breathe, every action counts.

You are not alone.

MHANYS CEO Glenn Liebman and COO Melissa Ramirez presented Mental Health America’s 2026 Governor’s Leadership Award, honoring Governor Kathy Hochul, to New York State Office of Mental Health Commissioner Ann Sullivan, who accepted on the Governor’s behalf. The award recognized Governor Hochul for her outstanding leadership and commitment to mental health, as well as the significant investments to expand access to care.

“MHANYS is proud to stand alongside Mental Health America in honoring Governor Hochul for her extraordinary leadership and commitment to mental health that is leading the way not only for New York State but as a model for other states,” said MHANYS CEO Glenn Liebman. "Governor Hochul has overseen an extraordinary investment in community-based mental health services and the enactment of precedent-setting laws requiring insurers and health plans to provide timely appointments, restricting cell phones in schools, and new, stringent safety measures to protect youth online and from addictive social media platforms and AI chatbots.”

March 30th is World Bipolar Day, a time to raise awareness, challenge stigma, and support those living with bipolar disorder.

Bipolar disorder is a mental health condition that affects mood, energy, and daily functioning, but with the right support and resources, people can and undoubtedly do live full, meaningful lives.

At MHANYS, we’re committed to sharing accurate information and connecting individuals and families to help when it’s needed most.

Explore our A–Z Topic Guide for Bipolar Disorder, including signs, treatment options, and support resources: mhanys.org/a-z-topic-guide/bipolar-disorder/

At MHANYS, we believe happiness is more than a feeling.

Happiness is nurtured through support, belonging, and meaningful relationships. Prioritizing mental health, practicing gratitude, and caring for one another helps create a foundation where individuals and communities can truly thrive.

Today, we’re reminded that small acts of kindness can spark lasting impact. When we uplift one another, we strengthen the well-being of all.

As state budget negotiations get underway, behavioral health and human services rallied this week at the State Capitol to urge a flexible targeted inflationary increase (formerly known as the COLA) of 4%. This investment is critical to sustaining community-based programs and supporting the workforce amidst rising costs and ongoing recruitment and retention challenges.

We thank Sen. Webb, Sen. Tedisco, and Asm. Hooks, Asm. O'Pharrow, Asm. Steck, and Asm. Smullen for stopping by to show their support. The rallies included representatives from The Alliance for Rights and Recovery , Association for Community Living , Council of Family and Child Caring Agencies (COFCCA) Northern Rivers Family of Services , NAMI New York State.

The rallies will continue until the final budget is passed!
