6th Annual Virtual Spring Summit
Resilience in Confinement: DMT and Interdisciplinary Approaches in Forensic Psychiatry
Presenter: Kavya Viswanathan, LCAT-LP, R-DMT, ERYT-500
1.25 ADTA, 1.25 NBCC

In forensic psychiatry, clients often face profound grief tied to the loss of freedom and recurring behavioral patterns shaped by trauma. This presentation explores how Dance/Movement Therapy combined with art therapy, yoga, and creative writing can serve as mirrors for resilience. Drawing from clinical practice at Bellevue Hospital, two case examples will illustrate how embodied, interdisciplinary approaches support clients in expressing grief and transforming restrictive patterns. Participants will engage in brief experiential practice and discussion, leaving with strategies for integrating dual-modality interventions and renewed confidence in the body's capacity for recovery and transformation.

On International Women’s Day, we honor the leadership, vision, and dedication of the women who have served as Presidents of the American Dance Therapy Association.

Their guidance has shaped our profession, strengthened our community, and expanded the reach of dance/movement therapy across generations. Today, we celebrate their contributions and the ongoing impact of women’s leadership within our field.

As we reflect on this legacy, we are reminded that our collective strength comes from those who have led, those who lead now, and those who will lead in the future.

We are the ADTA.

Are you reading the ADTA Digest? If not, you are missing out on our most complete and reliable way we have of communicating about issues and events with you!

Take a moment, right now, to make sure the important emails from ADTA.org and your chapter leaders are not going to spam. How to unblock emails:

Find and select messages in your junk/spam folder and look for an option like "Junk" > "Not Junk" or right-click and choose "Mark as Not Junk" to move it to your inbox to signal your email client.

You can also fix this in your mail settings. Navigate to Mail Settings (often a gear) > Junk Email > Blocked Senders & Domains, find adta.org and any chapter sender's email address or domain and select the option to remove it (i.e.'X' or 'Remove'). Click “Save".

Optional but recommended: in the same mail settings area, find the "Safe Senders" list and add the adta.org and chapter sender’s address or domain to ensure all future emails bypass the filter. Click “Save".

Some app-specific settings:
In Gmail: Unblock senders in Settings > Filters and Blocked Addresses.
In Outlook: Right-click the email in the Junk folder and select "Junk" > "Never Block Sender," or use the Settings > Mail > Junk Email section to manage lists.
In Apple Mail (Mac): Adjust filtering behaviors in Mail Settings > Junk Mail.
