Welcome, Stephanie Curtis!

We are excited to introduce Stephanie Curtis, LPCC, as an affiliate counselor at Albany Counseling Services! Stephanie specializes in working with children and adolescents (ages 5 and up), helping them navigate emotional and social challenges in a safe and supportive environment. She is now accepting new clients and even offers Saturday hours to accommodate busy families!

With 10 years of experience, Stephanie is passionate about helping young people build confidence, resilience, and healthy coping skills. She believes that every child can grow, heal, and thrive with the right support.

Stephanie shares, “I love helping children and teens plant seeds of growth and resilience. My goal is to equip them with the tools they need to navigate life’s challenges with confidence—both now and in the future.”

We are growing our Child Team at Albany Counseling Services...

Are you looking for a professional setting that thinks big but has all the benefits and support of a small, personalized environment? Do you enjoy working with motivated clients who seek out your skills and experience. Do you value continuous learning and seek to utilize that learning to make a difference in the lives of children, adolescents, and families in the Appalachian Region? If so, we invite you to consider joining our team of highly skilled professionals at Albany Counseling Services (ACS).

Albany Counseling Services is seeking a child therapist to serve our 13 and under population. We are seeking candidates with a strong interest in trauma-focused care and will incentivize this position with a scholarship to become certified in the Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics. Independent licensure is preferred but we will consider the right provisionally licensed candidate. We are especially interested in candidates who are trained in play and other experiential forms of therapy and who have experience working with children with complex developmental trauma.

Albany Counseling Services, LLC, is a private, group counseling practice with facilities located in Albany Ohio. We offer individual counseling and assessment services for children, adolescents, adults and families both in-person and through telehealth, enabling us to serve clients throughout the region. We are primarily insurance-based but also have a significant number of clients who pay out-of-pocket as well as contracts with area agencies and EAP’s. Our team offers a wide variety of trauma-informed counseling interventions and treatment modalities.

ACS offers:
 A competitive compensation package tailored to your needs, skills and experience
 Flexible hours
 A small, supportive, dynamic team environment where learning is valued and supported
 An opportunity to serve diverse populations and grow with our practice
 Extensive paid training opportunities in the Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics

If you would like to discuss the position, please feel free to reach out to our practice Director, Tammy Baumgartel at 740-844-3141. You can also forward your resume to tammy@albanycounseling.com. Learn more about us by visiting our web-site at www.albanycounseling.com.

Yelling is not a response, it is a reaction. When we yell, our stress response is activated and so is our child’s. In this state, our child will not be able to learn or grow.

If your stress response is high, take some time away from the situation before responding (when possible). If you can not get away, you can still regulate by moving your body, changing your temperature (go outside, take your sweater off), have a sip of water, hum a tune, or yell into a pillow.

Try use as few words as possible. Once everyone is more regulated, then we can come in and problem solve. One of our biggest challenges as parents is that we step in too quickly and use too many words.

Especially Now. Experience Matters.

The pace of social change is intensifying. Kids and families face obstacles and opportunities, pitfalls and potential that didn’t even exist just five years back. How do we navigate and help our children navigate the new emotional and developmental minefield in the age of Instagram? And, just as importantly, how do we mobilize and offer our children the latest thinking in biology, wellness education, neuroscience and psychology that can provide critical tools for life success?

We know that even though some of the challenges can feel new, effective solutions are always rooted in earned trust and proven experience. Children and families deserve an opportunity to work with highly-trained clinical professionals whose credibility is built on years of successful human and community problem-solving.

We’re excited to be at this intersection of both the challenges and the great promise of these times, providing you with the very best in the art and science of counseling.

We’re building Albany Counseling Services to meet the growing need for effective, state of the art behavioral health services for children, adolescents, families, and young adults. Our group of independently licensed professional counselors and social workers have deep roots in the Athens area. We’ve worked for years with community agencies, schools and nonprofits to offer cutting edge counseling and social education programs that have helped countless kids grow and learn. We believe evidence-based models of behavioral health counseling and community learning are most effective when delivered through trusted relationships, a focus on strength-based development, an interdisciplinary framework and a deep commitment to the highest ethical and professional standards.
