As part of Community Doula Week (March 29 – April 5), the Georgia Community Doula Coalition (GCDC) is honored to host a Community Doula Convening & Mixer in Southwest Georgia (SOWEGA) on April 3rd in Albany, GA.

This regional activation is part of our broader commitment to building a connected, statewide doula ecosystem—one that is rooted in community voice, regional representation, and shared strategy. We are intentionally creating space to engage with doulas, maternal and child health (MCH) partners, and community leaders in SOWEGA to ensure that this region is meaningfully included as we advance policy, workforce development, and systems change across Georgia.

📍 Albany State University (Gillonville) Campus J Building 120
🕚 Community Doula Convening | 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM
An intentional space for connection, dialogue, and collaboration. This convening will focus on relationship-building, sharing regional insights, and identifying opportunities to strengthen support for community-based doulas in Southwest Georgia.

🤠 Community Mixer (Dukes & Boots Theme) | 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM
An evening to celebrate community, culture, and the impactful work happening across the region. Join us for a relaxed and joyful gathering as we honor doulas and birthworkers in SOWEGA.
We are proud to begin our regional convenings in Southwest Georgia and look forward to continuing this work across all perinatal regions throughout the year.

GBDN on the news 🖤✨

For years, doula care in Georgia hasn’t been covered by insurance, limiting access for families and sustainability for doulas. That’s starting to change.

With companies like UnitedHealthcare, Cigna and Elevance Health expanding coverage, this moment could shift everything.

As our founder Sekesa Berry shared, this is about sustainability, creating real pathways for doulas to thrive and expanding opportunities for hospitals and organizations to truly integrate doula care.

Mother’s Legacy Wellness Circles is a six-month support program created to help new mothers rest, heal, and reconnect with themselves after birth. Through community, resources, and guided support, we create a safe space where moms can share, grow, and receive the care they deserve.

Because space in the cohort is limited, we ask interested mothers to complete a short questionnaire. This helps us understand your needs and ensure the program is the right fit for you.

We didn’t create GBDN Training Institute for aesthetics, we created it because it’s needed.

Doulas are still being denied in hospitals, treated like visitors, and pushed out of spaces where they’re meant to protect and support. Meanwhile Black women are still not being heard.

That’s why we exist.
To train doulas who know how to navigate these systems, empowering mothers to speak up, and show up.
This is about equity, advocacy and real change.

Honored to be serving as the full spectrum doula holding space for the moms in the Mother’s Legacy Wellness Circles program here in Albany. 🤍

Postpartum is a sacred transition, and no mother should have to navigate it alone. I’m grateful to walk alongside these women with support, guidance, and care during their healing journey after birth.
