Stanly Adult Care Center

Stanly Adult Care Center We are a nonprofit organization established in December of 2021 to bring adult day health care and respite services to residents of Stanly County.

Our services will be available to adult residents (18 years and older) of Stanly, Montgomery, Anson, Rowan, and Cabarrus Counties. Adult day health services offer participants meaningful activities, interaction with friends, nutritious meals, health care services (such as health monitoring and medication administration), assistance with personal care (bathing and hair care), and transportation. Participants’ families will benefit from adult day services by receiving respite, or a break, from caregiving and can continue their own lives, which may include working, participating in community activities, and raising children. Currently there are no adult day health services in Stanly or Montgomery Counties. Stanly Adult Care Center will be certified by the North Carolina Division of Aging and Adult Services as a combination day care/day health center. Our goal is to be the premier provider of Adult Day Health Services in our area. Goals and objectives include the following: · Participants will be provided supervision and health care in a safe, homelike setting. · Participants will participate in appropriate enriching activities and develop nurturing relationships to improve their emotional and social well-being. · Participants will maintain or improve their level of functioning for as long as possible and continue to live at home rather than in expensive institutional alternatives such as assisted living/nursing home facilities. · Family caregivers will experience peace of mind and decreased stress levels while they work or take care of personal matters during the day. · Family caregivers will receive education and support to better prepare them to meet caregiving demands. Our mission is to provide safe, compassionate, and exceptional adult day health care services that will offer meaningful, individually tailored programs and care designed to enhance the quality of life of adults with physical or mental impairment while providing respite care for families and caregivers. Our vision is to be the community’s premier adult day health care provider of services that promote health, wellness, support, and peace of mind for our clients and their families.

Winter Caregiving Tip #12: Give Yourself Space to Rest After the Holiday Rush

The days after Christmas often carry a quiet kind of tired — the emotional fatigue that comes from holding so much together.

Today’s reminder is gentle but important:

You need rest after giving so much.

Rest doesn’t always mean sleep.
It might look like:
• A morning without rushing
• A quiet cup of coffee
• Turning off your phone for an hour
• Saying “not today”
• Sitting in silence
• Letting yourself feel what you feel

This is a season of support — and that includes supporting your own heart.

Merry Christmas to our caregivers, supporters, and community.
We know this season can be full of joy and also full of emotion.
Wherever Christmas finds you today — in celebration, in quiet reflection, or in a moment of rest — we hope you feel seen, supported, and appreciated.

Thank you for the care you give, the love you show, and the strength you carry.

Warmest Christmas wishes from all of us at

Winter Caregiving Tip #11: Celebrate Moments, Not Expectations

Christmas Eve can bring up memories — beautiful ones, painful ones, and everything in between.
Caregiving during the holidays rarely looks like it used to, and that’s okay.

Today, try shifting from expectations to moments.

Celebrate:
• A shared smile
• A quiet morning
• A favorite song
• A peaceful meal
• A small act of kindness
• A memory that warms your heart

These moments — simple and real — are where the true magic of the season lives.

However your holiday looks this year, may it hold peace, comfort, and connection.

Winter Caregiving Tip #10: Let This Week Be Simple

This week often comes with pressure — meals to make, places to be, traditions to honor, emotions to manage.
But caregiving already requires so much of your time, energy, and heart.

Here’s your reminder for today:

Let this week be simple.
You don’t have to do everything.
You don’t have to attend everything.
You don’t have to create a perfect holiday.

Choose what matters most.
Release what drains you.
Let the rest be gentle.

This season is about presence — not perfection.

Winter Caregiving Tip #9: Break Tasks Into “10-Minute Wins”

When days feel long and energy is low, even simple tasks can feel overwhelming.
Try breaking things into 10-minute wins — small actions that move you forward without draining you.

Examples:
✔ 10 minutes to prep medications
✔ 10 minutes to tidy one small area
✔ 10 minutes to plan meals
✔ 10 minutes to sit and breathe
✔ 10 minutes to organize paperwork
✔ 10 minutes of gentle movement

Small wins create real momentum — and they help keep burnout away.

Progress doesn’t need to be big to be meaningful.

As we move through this Season of Support, we are reminded just how often caregiving takes a village. The hands you see in this image represent what our scholarship fund is all about — people coming together to support families who are doing everything they can for someone they love.

Earlier this month, we introduced the Participant Scholarship Fund, created to help families who experience a gap in coverage for adult day health services. While many of our revenue sources will support eligible participants, Medicare Part A and Part B do not cover adult day health. This leaves some families able to afford only one or two days each week, even when their loved one truly needs more frequent support.

Your generosity helps offset the daily cost, allowing participants to attend more often, maintain a safe and consistent routine, and receive the level of care their health and well-being require. Every gift brings stability, relief, and hope to a caregiver navigating a challenging season.

Winter Caregiving Tip #8: Keep Emotions Soft During Holiday Weeks

As the holidays approach, emotions often rise — joy and grief, gratitude and exhaustion, hope and heaviness.
Caregiving during this season can feel especially complicated.

Here’s today’s gentle reminder:

Allow emotions to be soft.
No pressure to make things perfect.
No obligation to recreate old traditions.
No guilt if things look different this year.

This season can hold both love and loss… celebration and change… togetherness and tiredness.

Give yourself permission to feel what you feel — and hold it with kindness.

You are doing enough.
You are enough.

Winter Caregiving Tip #7: Have a “Routine Anchor” Each Day

Winter brings long nights and unpredictable days — especially for caregivers.
A routine anchor is one small activity that stays the same no matter how the day unfolds.

Your anchor might be:
• A morning cup of tea before anyone wakes
• Reading a daily devotion
• A short walk outside
• A gratitude list
• A 5-minute stretch
• Watching the sunrise or sunset

This simple ritual grounds you and gives the day a beginning or ending that you can count on.

Caregiving has seasons, and routine brings comfort in every one of them.

Winter Caregiving Tip #6: Build Your “Backup Plan List” Before You Need It

Winter brings unpredictability — icy mornings, holiday closures, illness, and sudden schedule changes.
A caregiving backup plan can turn a stressful moment into a manageable one.

Consider creating a short list that includes:

✔ A relative, neighbor, or friend who can sit for an hour
✔ A backup transportation option (if needed)
✔ Your primary care provider’s after-hours line
✔ Pharmacy delivery options
✔ A local urgent care that accepts walk-ins
✔ A short list of “easy meals” for busy days

A plan doesn’t remove the challenges —
but it gives you confidence and breathing room to navigate them.

That’s the heart of support.

Winter Caregiving Tip #5: Create a Warm, Safe Evening Routine

Evenings come early in winter, and that shift can increase confusion, restlessness, or anxiety — especially for adults living with memory changes.

A simple evening routine can bring calm:

• Close blinds before dark
• Turn on warm lamps (avoid bright white light)
• Lower background noise
• Offer a warm drink
• Keep conversations gentle and unhurried
• Use soft music to create a peaceful atmosphere

This predictable rhythm can make evenings smoother and more comforting for everyone.

Caregiving grows easier when the environment works with you — not against you.

Winter Caregiving Tip #4: Watch for “Hidden” Signs of Fatigue

Winter can make fatigue harder to spot — shorter days, holiday stress, and colder mornings often blend together. But caregivers and care recipients may show subtle signs that shouldn’t be ignored.

Look for quiet warnings like:
• Withdrawing from usual activities
• Slower movement
• Forgetfulness
• Irritability or frustration
• Falling asleep during the day

These aren’t inconveniences — they’re signals.
Paying attention early helps prevent burnout, falls, and illness.

Gentle awareness is one of the greatest gifts of the season.

Winter Caregiving Tip #3: Create a “Comfort Basket”

Cold days and long evenings can make caregiving feel heavier.
A simple comfort basket can turn difficult moments into calmer ones — for both of you.

Consider filling it with:

• A warm blanket
• Soft socks
• Lotion or lip balm
• A favorite snack
• A calming playlist
• A small activity or magazine
• A handwritten note

This little basket becomes a big reminder:
You are doing something remarkable — and you deserve comfort too.

Caregiving has seasons.
Some are light… others are long.
You don’t have to walk any of them alone.
