💙 April 2 – World Autism Acceptance Day 💙
Today is a reminder that acceptance matters! World Autism Acceptance Day is about embracing differences, promoting inclusion, and ensuring individuals with autism are valued for who they are. This important day was established on December 18, 2007, by the United Nations General Assembly—a global call to promote understanding, dignity, and inclusion for people with autism everywhere.
When we choose acceptance, we create a world where everyone has the opportunity to belong and thrive. 💙

💙 April is Autism Acceptance Month 💙
This month is about so much more than awareness—it’s about acceptance, inclusion, and celebrating the unique strengths of individuals on the autism spectrum! Autism Acceptance Month reminds us to move beyond simply recognizing autism and instead embrace and support individuals in meaningful ways—by listening, learning, and creating opportunities for everyone to thrive. Every person with autism has their own story, talents, and perspective that enrich our communities. When we choose acceptance, we help build a world where differences are not just acknowledged—but truly valued.
Join us this April as we celebrate, educate, and advocate for a more inclusive future for all. 💙

Our Valentines celebrations continued this week with a gathering at Immanuel Baptist Church. We enjoyed party foods, BINGO, and sweet Valentine treats! It’s always so much fun and everyone was all smiles. A special thank you to staff that prepared and served the delicious food, called BINGO, and helped with setup and cleanup. We always appreciate our Direct Care Staff for accompanying everyone and ensuring a good time for all. We couldn’t do these events without the use of Immanuel Church’s wonderful space for us to gather.

What a magical evening for the individuals in our Wilmington programs at Night to Shine 2026! 💙✨

On Friday, February 13, our participants stepped onto the red carpet for an unforgettable prom night experience made possible through the incredible vision of the Tim Tebow Foundation. Hosted locally at Port City Community Church, the night was filled with delicious food, joyful dancing, cheering volunteers, and countless festive moments that made every guest feel like royalty.

From crowns and corsages to laughter on the dance floor, the evening was a beautiful celebration of inclusion, confidence, and community. We are so grateful for the volunteers, organizers, and supporters who helped create such a special memory for the individuals we serve in Wilmington. It truly was a night to shine! 🌟

Our hearts are full after a wonderful Sweetheart Dance on Saturday, February 7th at the Stanly County Family YMCA Pavilion.❤️ Individuals supported by GHA Autism Supports enjoyed an unforgettable western themed evening filled with delicious food and a fun photo booth as they danced the night away surrounded by friends and smiles.

This special event was made possible through the generous sponsorship of Pine Grove Methodist Church and Bethany United Methodist Church. We are deeply grateful to the many volunteers from both churches whose time, energy, and kindness helped create such a welcoming and joyful celebration.

A very special thank-you goes to the Cosmetology Department at Stanly Community College for providing services to our participants—helping everyone feel confident, celebrated, and looking their very best for the night.✨

Moments like these remind us of the power of community and inclusion. Thank you to everyone who helped make this evening so meaningful and memorable! 💕

We’re so proud of the individuals from the GHA Autism Supports Day Program who are participating in an Employability Skills Program at Stanly Community College!

This semester, our students are enrolled in a math employability skills class taught by GHA Board Member Lisa Ewers, making this partnership even more special. In addition to strengthening basic math skills, participants will be learning valuable skills related to independent living and workplace readiness.

Today was an exciting milestone as students received their official SCC student IDs, which also provide discounts at community businesses—another great step toward independence and community inclusion.

Our individuals will be attending class every Monday and Wednesday throughout the semester, and we can’t wait to see all they accomplish. Thank you to Stanly Community College and Lisa Ewers for helping make opportunities like this possible!

Nothing is better than spending time in the NC Mountains during the fall. From the crisp air to the colorful fall leaves, individuals we support at GHA enjoyed a trip to Boone, NC in September. It was a fun-packed adventure from visiting the pumpkin patch, Mast General Store, bowling, eating out, enjoying sweet treats, and just relaxing at the cabin. It was a wonderful adventure with memories to last a lifetime! A special thank you to our Direct Care Staff and a special donor that made this trip possible.

Holiday cheer was in full swing at our Albemarle Day Program! Our individuals had the best time celebrating together in their cozy PJs, enjoying delicious cupcakes, and receiving some of their favorite items from their holiday wish lists. Smiles, laughter, and sweet moments filled the room, reminding us what this season is all about—joy, connection, and feeling truly celebrated. ❤️🧁🎁

We are so thankful for days like this and for our dedicated staff who help to make these special moments possible!
