REDUCING OVERDOSE DEATHS: With $61,000 in Freeborn County Opioid Epidemic Response Funds, Albert Lea Fire Rescue is investing in equipment and medication to respond to opioid overdoses.
❤️ ALFR will buy a cardiac monitor/defibrillator, a critical tool used during overdoses and other cardiac emergencies.
🚒 ALFR will also serve as the central Naloxone distributor for 15 rural fire departments, the Albert Lea Police Department and the Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office. This approach will help ensure that the lifesaving medication is available when and where needed across the county.
Last year, emergency responders were dispatched to 31 overdoses in the county, with 6 deaths and 25 survivors. In the last 10 years, Freeborn County has reported 41 deaths related to overdoses. Not all overdoses result from illicit drug use. Some are accidental overdoses of prescribed medications.
This plan will also protect first responders who may be exposed to opioids in the field.
