The Viscardi Center The Viscardi Center Founded by Dr. Henry Viscardi, Jr., who served as disability advisor to eight U.S.

Presidents and became one of the world’s leading advocates, The Viscardi Center educates, employs and empowers people with disabilities. It provides Pre-K-12 education, school-to-work youth transition services, vocational training, career counseling and employment placement, and assistive technology to children, adolescents, and adults with a wide variety of disabilities. The Viscardi Center also assists businesses in advancing disability inclusive cultures in their workplaces.

Our milestone year is going to be Wickedly awesome! As we celebrate our Diamond Anniversary at Viscardi’s , Monday, May 11, 2026, we’re proud to honor Jenna Bainbridge, actor, singer, and disability rights advocate, who made history in 2024 as the first wheelchair user to perform in a new Broadway musical with her debut in Suffs. She is currently appearing on Broadway as Nessarose in Wicked—the first authentically disabled actor to play the role. Beyond the stage, she is the co-founder of ConsultAbility, helping theaters and arts programs create more accessible and inclusive spaces for disabled artists. Governor Kathy Hochul recently launched EXPRESS NY (Expediting Processes and Regulations to Enable Streamlined Services), a statewide initiative to improve government services by cutting outdated and burdensome regulations. She is inviting stakeholders across New York to share ideas on how to reduce red tape and improve service delivery.

Exciting news! The 18th Annual ReelAbilities Film Festival, the largest festival in the world dedicated to showcasing groundbreaking films by and about people with disabilities returns to The Viscardi Center on April 28!. The week-long festival is renowned for its wide-ranging international film selection, riveting conversations, and performances, presented annually across the New York metropolitan area. The 18th Annual ReelAbilities Film Festival takes place April 23–30 across NYC and online. Additional information and tickets to the full festival will be available on March 26. Friday marked a true full-circle moment as we re-enacted Honorable Judge Robert Pipia’s Nassau County Family Court swearing-in ceremony in the The Henry Viscardi School auditorium, the very place where his journey began as a student. It was a powerful reflection of the transformative work happening at The Viscardi Center and a reminder to our students that they, too, can explore and pursue any career path.

Following the release of Governor Kathy Hochul's Executive Budget this week, Association Co-Chairs Antony A.L. McLetchie (Rochester School for the Deaf) and Angelo Zegarelli (The Henry Viscardi School) said: "We look forward to working with the Governor and our champions in the Legislature to ensure funding growth is included in the final enacted budget that aligns with increases provided to public school districts."

What a perfect way to kick off 2026! Sunny, our beloved facility dog, celebrated his 8th birthday with Henry Viscardi School students on their first day back from winter break. The students sang, Sunny enjoyed his favorite cake, and the celebration wrapped up with plenty of cuddles—setting the tone for a joyful year ahead.

Applications for The Viscardi Center’s 2026–2027 Inclusive Higher Education program will be available online during the first week of January. The program is open to students with a local diploma who are OPWDD approved. To receive the application link when it goes live, email your name and email address to ssangiorgio@viscardicenter.org. You can also visit thinkcollege.net to learn more about inclusive postsecondary programs and what opportunities like this can offer.
