Guntersville, AL Native Courtney Long named Manager for Marshall Memorial Funeral Home

We are pleased to announce that Courtney Long has been named Manager for Marshall Memorial Funeral Home in Albertville, AL, Crestview Cemetery in Guntersville, AL, and Brookwood Cemetery in Arab, AL.

Courtney grew up in Marshall County and is a graduate of Guntersville High School. She lives in Guntersville with her husband, Jay, and their 5 kids. She began working in the industry in 2018 and has family buried at Crestview Cemetery. When she isn't busy working at the funeral home or one of the cemeteries, she is involved with her kids activities which include musicals, swim, and various sports.

Having family buried at Crestview Cemetery, she realizes first hand the amount of work that needs to be done to bring it, Marshall Memory Gardens in Albertville, and Brookwood Cemetery in Arab up to the standards that our customers deserve and she is eager to show the community that it is a new day at Marshall Memorial and our cemeteries. She looks forward to giving you a place where you can be proud to honor your loved ones.

For the safety of our employees, we have decided to be closed tomorrow. In the event of an emergency, please call 256-878-1236. The phone lines will be monitored all day long to ensure we are available and reachable. Tuesday morning we will resume normal operations, but on a delayed schedule. Once again, the phone lines will be monitored all day long. All emergency calls will be returned on Monday. Anything non emergent will be returned Tuesday.

The rain did what it always does. The first heavy rain always hurts graves and markers. Not bad, but not the way we keep them. This is one example that we are working on today. There are multiple graves that have 'holes' in them due to the heavy rain. We always try and let families know at the interment signing that is a possibility. We always tell them if you see it before is, let us know. This marker also 'slipped' sideways. Once again, this is what happens when mother nature strikes. Today or concern is fixing the sunken graves. We are working on this one right now. We will go back in the next week and fix the markers that sunk.

As always, if you see it before we do, call us and tell us. There are 5000 graves in the cemetery and we have to look around at all of them. We may miss yours, not because we aren't working, but simply because after a heavy rain, we have to do damage control first.

Please know the staff is on hand, along with extra contractors trying to rectify the issues now.

We had a grave cave in on us today in the cemetery. We know it looks bad, but when the weather is better next week, we will finish cleaning it up.

In addition, we are aware of several graves that need dirt. This is the first heavy rain and we know they are low. We have a staff member working again tomorrow to try and correct the graves.

Dylan Battles cleaned up the plaque at the front of our cemetery today.

I am telling you, he can fix those markers up to look like new!!
