Exercising is a big part of our daily routine!

In this video kids were following along to a kids yoga 🧘🏼video on YouTube. Cosmic Kids for the win! We ♥️ her videos!

Physical exercise helps children develop endurance and fine motor skills like balance, flexibility and dexterity.
They are also learning to listen👂🏼and follow directions (bonus!!)

Exercising our brain 🧠 and fingers 🖐🏼 this morning.

The kids are working together, problem solving, and strengthening finger muscles while putting together puzzles. It may help the puzzles are all CoComelon theme 😉

We’re all about learning through play 🥰

Process art is FUN!

The kids picked their own paper colors out, decided on markers and paint 🎨 for the artwork and were set free. It’s about the process, not the outcome. 😊

We have artists in the making at Exploring Roots Childcare LLC 🥰

What makes this more special? We talked about how amazing all mommas are and how much we each love our mom’s.

I can’t wait for the kids to deliver their gifts on Mother’s Day.

Happy Mother’s Day to every rocking 🤘🏻mom out there. This world 🌎 wouldn’t go around if it weren’t for moms ♥️

Chalk art ♥️

The kids were prompted by Miss S to “make her porch beautiful”. And they were set free to create as their hearts desire.

These are the results. 😍 of course they wouldn’t let Miss S just sit around ☀️

Beautiful day + flower picking = DIY flower vase!

We spent the morning picking flowers and blowing dandelions into the wind 💨🌼

So naturally this afternoon we had to break out the paints to decorate our very own flower vases. We used old spice bottles to make sure we are reducing, reusing, recycling ♻️!

We ♥️ when the weather is beautiful out!

Outside play is a huge part of learning and development in children. Plus, it’s amazing what fresh air does to our overall health and mood 😎

Conversations look like: what’s the weather like? What sounds do you hear? What animals do you see?

It’s also a great way to work on gross motor skills! Throwing/kicking a ball, jumping, running, climbing, and sitting are all easily done when exploring the outside world 🌳☀️

Why are fine motor skills important?

These skills engage small muscles that work with our brain 🧠 and nervous system.

Developing and mastering fine motor skills help us eat 🥗, write ✍️, get dressed 👖and manipulate objects!

Luckily, practicing these skills can be easily done with household objects.
Do you have cardboard, shoe strings and a hole punch? You’re good to go!

This simple threading activity really works our concentration and helps us develop those fine motor skills!

Monkey Foam + Sea Animals = WIN!

I am introducing a new theme this week, Water Animals 💦

Our first sensory bin is made up of Easter grass (reduce reuse recycle ♻️), sea animals and a favorite, monkey foam!

Here the kids get to dig in the ‘water’ to find sea animals (fine motor skills). Then their imagination does the rest 🧠.

They could play with the animals, use the monkey foam to make impressions or as pictured, create their own under the sea world 🐠🐙🐬

The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle

During circle time, we all read The Very Hungry Caterpillar 🐛

Then Miss Sierra drew caterpillars on construction paper. Each child got to pick their own color of course!

Then the kids were left to artistic freedom to color their caterpillars!

Beautiful artwork, learning how to hold crayons, and of course bringing that book alive!
Great lessons learned all while having fun. 🥰

Ten Little Ladybugs by Melanie Gerth 🐞

We followed along with a singing version of Ten Little Ladybugs.

We acted out each part and used our fingers to show how many ladybugs were left.

Then we created our own unique ladybugs with egg cartons, washable paint, googly eyes and some construction paper wings!

We made this book come alive by doing real world activities that are inspired by the book! What a fun way to learn 😊

Natural elements to create art.

This activity offers a wonderful blend of nature, math, social and fine motor skills.

While on outside adventures, children are encouraged to pick dandelions. This sparks conversation of bees and bugs 🐝🐞🕷️ (ooh look, our letter of the week ‘B’ in conversation!).

Picking dandelions practices that tricky pinching 🤏 motion!

Once our picking is done, it’s to the creation table! Nature art can only be done outside, right? 😉

Children then take a glue stick and trace around the number ‘0’. They are encouraged to say ’zero’ while tracing the zero with glue.

Glue all done? Time to pick and place each dandelion! We just made a master art piece and learned so many skills along the way.

Bonus? the children all got 30 minutes of fresh air and ☀️sunlight☀️ while using their artistic, social, and fine motor skills.

“What are you doing?”
“What is this?”
“How?”
“Why?”

While sometimes these questions seem unnecessary, remember this! Learning is NOISY. What seems like an every day, nothing task to us, children are LEARNING from it.
From preparing meals, washing dishes, cleaning up, children are learning new life skills just by asking about them.
Once their curiosity is sparked, let them try it! As a parent, you may think they can’t or aren’t ready. You will be surprised what a child can accomplish just because you let them TRY. The extra 5 minutes of time it takes to let them try it themselves will be worth it in the long run!

Include them.
Teach them.
Let them.
