In celebration of Pay It Forward Day today (April 28), self-advocates at The Arc Noble County Foundations presented a total of $5,000 in donations, with support from WindSwell Foundation, to local organizations that are creating a more inclusive community for people with disabilities.
We celebrated the day with lunch, socializing, and recognizing the organizations individuals chose.
Augusta Hills Learning Recreation & Community Center in Albion was selected because "We love going to Augusta Hills for different fitness classes and to walk. There are always people there playing pickleball when we walk in. It has a ramp so everyone can get into the building. We’re glad we have a place like this for our town. We’re always greeted by name by Steve and have nice instructors." Pictured is representative from Augusta Hills - Steve Kirkpatrick, Activities Director
Community Harvest Food Bank - Fort Wayne was selected because "We volunteer with the Farm Wagon in Wolcottville on Mondays and in Albion on Fridays. We like to give out food to people who need it and we’re happy they come to Albion. We’ve made friends with the workers and the people who drive through for food." Visit Noble County was selected because "We worked with Visit Noble County last year to do accessibility assessments for our parks and other public places. We had a form to fill out for each place that asked if there were sidewalks, restrooms and other areas that everyone would be able to use. We appreciate that they want to make sure fun places are accessible for ALL people."
