Tonight we enjoyed looking at pictures of our newest little family member, Koen! 💙 He is the son of Emma, one of our amazing Resident Care Associates, and he is absolutely precious. He fits right in with his own Country Retreat onesie!

Jean was especially intrigued when we celebrated leading up to his birth with a gender reveal and discussions of a baby shower. She shared that she wished she could have experienced a gender reveal and baby shower ‘back in the day’ when she had her babies. She said she would give just about anything to have a little boy with lots of hair.

We are determined to give her the chance to experience these special moments too — stay tuned for a special “baby journey” with Jean. 👶✨

If you look closely at the picture, you can see Lucy looking out the window. Frequently when I leave, she walks me to the door and watches to make sure I get to my vehicle safely. On this particular night she was already snug in bed, and I told her she didn’t have to get up. But she was adamant. She said, “That’s what I do for my family and the people I love.”❤️

It was the absolute sweetest thing.

She’s right — we really are one big, happy family. I’m so glad our residents don’t just hear that from us, but truly feel it and know it in their hearts. ❣️💫❣️

Of course we had green eggs and ham for lunch today — it’s Dr. Seuss’s birthday! 💚 🍳🐷

Our family had the best time enjoying a Dr. Seuss–themed lunch, learning all about him, and even listening to one of his books while we ate. There’s just something special about sharing a story around the table.

We especially loved talking about his five leasons in life and how they still apply at every age. His words remind us to be kind, be curious, and always believe in ourselves. ❤️❣️❤️

🐷 Happy National Pig Day! 🐷

Oh what fun and belly laughs we had during today’s activity! We quickly discovered that Lois is definitely our pig wizard of the family. She amazed us with all her pig knowledge!💫

In the middle of our discussion about what kinds of food come from pigs, Jean made it very clear that she would not allow anyone to take her pig to the butcher shop for food! You can enjoy her heartfelt conversation with her pig in the video below.

We are committed to making all of their days special and today was no exception — with lots of laughter, personality, and precious conversations. 🖤 🐷

We always try to squeeze in all the fun and meaningful activities… and sometimes there just aren’t enough hours in the day. So today became our official “make-up day” as we celebrated Polar Bear Day and Letter to an Elder Day! 💌

Our polar bear donuts turned out absolutely adorable (and yes… they added a few extra calories to our day 😉). The smiles around the table were worth every bite!

We are so incredibly thankful to every single person who contributed to Letter to an Elder Day. They truly love receiving mail. The joy on their faces as they open each card is something special.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for the support you give our family. You have no idea how much it means to us.❣️

We had some special visitors this afternoon! 🐔♥️

These sweet chickens filled our home with love and laughter. Jean was absolutely in heaven and couldn’t get enough of them!

A big thank you to the Ramsey’s for taking the time to bring them by for such a fun and heartwarming visit. We are so grateful!

Tonight we took those in our family who wanted to go cheer on the Central Preston Middle School Wildcats boys basketball team. They invited us during their Christmas visit to our home, and the weather finally cooperated so we could get out and support them.

When they came at Christmas, one of their teammates gave our residents a Dairy Queen gift card. We saved it for a special occasion — and tonight felt perfect. On the way home, we stopped and brought everyone home ice cream to celebrate their big win!

They’re heading to the championship tomorrow, and we are cheering them on all the way. 🏀

Mark and Nora both said the same thing — they were so happy to be at a basketball game. Mark was especially emotional, telling us over and over how happy he was. It was truly heartwarming to witness.

Thank you, Wildcats, for inviting us to be part of your night.

Stitch came to see our family tonight, and it was the sweetest visit! 🐐❤️ At just 5½ weeks old, this bottle-fed baby soaked up lots of love.

We learned Mamaw is the true goat lover of our family - (Jean says she’ll stick to her chickens 🐓).

❤️When one of our family members is having a challenging time, we come together and brainstorm ways to help lighten the load. Loving them well means thinking outside the box and leaning in a little closer when they need it most.

This was one of those moments. After extra reassurance and care, we were able to let the family know their loved one had returned home and was happy. The comfort in their response — and their gratitude for our team’s hard work — truly warmed our hearts.

It’s more than care. It’s family. ❤️

Sometimes when they look in the mirror, they don’t always realize the reflection staring back is their own. Time can play tricks on the mind, and the face they see doesn’t always match the age they feel inside.

But this night was different.
They recognized themselves — and it was just too sweet (and too funny) not to share.

Mamaw said, “I love giving everyone a belly laugh,” and that’s exactly what she did. Jean followed with saying, “I ain’t never been anywhere like this place… and I never want to leave.”🥺❤️

We are so blessed with our little family. ❤️

🐾 Yesterday was Dog Biscuit Appreciation Day, so we celebrated by making a BARKuterie board for The Preston County Animal Shelter.

Today we delivered it — and made lots of dogs very happy!

The ladies had the best time putting the board together. They got a kick out of the fact that the ingredients for the dog treats were things they could eat too, sneaking in a few extra calories and lots of laughs along the way.

Ed was especially excited to tag along for the delivery. It truly was a family effort, and together we got the job done.

We love finding simple ways to spread joy — both inside our home and out in our community. 🐶❤️
