New week. New month. New season. Let's talk about boundaries!

There are SO many reasons we—as women, especially—have trouble setting boundaries. We’ve been fed a myth of the "happy, capable multitasker." The myth of the woman juggling a million things—keeping all the balls in the air (our kids, jobs, relationships, etc). Most of us actually do manage to keep the balls in the air, but at our own expense—and all the while, feeling like we’re shortchanging everyone & everything.

It’s taken me years to get really good at setting boundaries that allow me to stay balanced & focused on my priorities; that keep my energy centered & intact, instead of dispersed & spent. The art of setting these boundaries has opened new pathways of honest communication & empowerment in my life. By giving greater respect to my physical health, mental well-being, and time, I teach others to treat me with that same respect.

Read my article & tune into my podcast, On Health, for episode #193: Why Creating & Setting Boundaries is Essential for Our Health (link in bio!).

I deep-dish about:

👉🏻 What boundaries are & the types we overlook
👉🏻 Why we have trouble setting boundaries
👉🏻 How to know if you need them in your life
👉🏻 Exercises to help you discover your highest priorities & how to stick to them
👉🏻 Boundary-setting practices to get you started
👉🏻 So much more, including my weird style tip that relates to healthy boundaries!

Do you need to set better boundaries? What's letting you know that? Are you uncomfortable setting boundaries? Which ones and why? If you're getting good at it, how do you set boundaries in your life?

xx, Dr. A.

🌟 Happy ! 🌟

🧠 Our brains are exquisite neural networks, wired to process emotions, thoughts, and experiences. When we practice gratitude regularly, we're not just spreading positivity, but actually sculpting our brain's structure.

Research suggests that gratitude stimulates the production of dopamine and serotonin – the brain's "feel-good" neurotransmitters. These compounds not only uplift our mood but also enhance our overall well-being. It's like a natural boost for our brain's happiness centers! 😄🌈☀️

By learning to focus on the good – “good” in the practical sense of that which brings more happiness to oneself and more helpfulness to others – we can bring balance to our natural inclination to tilt towards a negativity bias.

This is more than positive thinking. Taking in the good is a brain-science savvy and psychologically skillful way to improve how you feel, get things done, and treat others.

Here's to creating habits that help us focus our attention on the good 🙌🏼

We all have a Medicine Woman inside of us.
It’s an energy you can call forth.🙏🏽

True leaders don't create followers,
they create more leaders.

Somatic Experiencing® resolves symptoms of stress, shock, and other traumas that accumulate in our bodies. When we are stuck in patterns of fight, flight, or freeze, SE helps us release and recover.

Underneath our anger is mostly lots of unmet needs and ongoing cycle of repressed emotions.

It wasn’t until I actually befriended my anger,
where I was able to see how much I was really holding onto.

Our anger is an indicator when our boundaries have been crossed and is a beautiful way we can get curious about meeting those unmet needs.

I believe my repressed anger was a big reason illness manifested in my body.

Meeting that anger with curiosity and compassion has helped me see that anger is an important emotion and that it’s safe to express in a healthy non reactive way.

It has taken some time to form this relationship with anger as all I knew as a child was that anger was fear based and a way to manipulate and control.

Now I know it’s safe to be with anger. It’s safe to express it. Just takes some time to build that relationship.

Something to ponder as we enter the weekend. Take time to slow down and care of ourselves in ways we may have deferred until now.

How will you show up for yourself this weekend?🥰
My plans? Nature, yoga, breathwork ( and Day 8 of cold plunges😲💃🏽💖).

THIS! Yes, over and over!!! Repost from

Whenever I find myself justifying or explaining myself- that’s my signal that I’m abandoning myself.

So I stop, take a deep breath, remember that I’m a grown up, and I do the next right thing, one thing at a time - without asking permission before or justifying after.

It’s not their job to trust your vision, it is your job to trust your vision.
Let them believe it when they see it.

We are reaffirming our patterns all day long, unfortunately we are typically reaffirming the negative ones. The reason we aren’t aware of this is because we live on auto pilot, in the past or in the future. When we begin a practice of bringing ourselves back to the present moment along with awareness of where our mind and thoughts were we can begin to recognize where we live subconsciously. From here we can gently shift ourselves back in to the now, where creation resides.

We live in a world where information never ceases to be available. On one hand this is fantastic and on the other hand it can lead to internal disconnect. We could fill every waking hour with nonstop input easily. We have become so distant from our inner voice, that voice of knowing that is wise and connected to all that is, but attempting to hear or recognize it is nearly impossible for so many right now. Silence offers a way back to discovering and developing your inner voice, and honestly so much more. It can be uncomfortable at first especially if you’ve been avoiding things (just because you are busy, possibly equaling avoidance, doesn’t equal issues going away) so you might have to sort through some things first (this too is valuable). But what comes after is a peace and calm you can never find anywhere else. I invite you to slow down, breathe, get still and find silence. Keep a journal nearby so you can write and process what comes up. Remember if the things that surface are too hard, find a therapist to work with so you can be free and find that wise inner voice inside you that is waiting to reconnect.

When you are not seen or heard, you are invisible. Your experiences are not validated or confirmed, and the pain and suffering from this is very real. I believe counseling is healing for many reasons, but so much healing can happen from the experience of being seen and heard. The art of listening can move mountains for a person who has never experienced this. I have a front row seat to this alchemy and I am continuously amazed by how an open heart and mind, and authentically curious spirit engaged with another can cause a shift so profound that this seemingly simple act can create new realities.

1. What we focus on grows. You want change, immerse your mind in whatever change you wish to seek; read books, find experts on the topic and follow them on IG or FB, listen to podcasts, journal about the change- what you are learning and reflect on it. More focused attention = brain change BUT don’t forget the next step.
2. Get good sleep! Have good sleep hygiene- no bright lights after 10pm, have a ritual you practice nightly that helps your body shift from “on” mode to sleep mode and avoid stimulants, such as caffeine and alcohol close to bedtime to name a few.

This may seem like an impossible task at first but as with any skill practiced over time becomes a more natural practice. Our brain has evolved to have a negativity bias so it takes awareness and regular practice to not default to this. Our brain has neuroplasticity this means it can develop new neural pathways. How does one do this? Repition of a task! POSTED@withregram • Stressed? Reframe your thoughts.
