After a stroke, brain injury, hip fracture or other complex orthopedic or neurological condition, our expert clinicians combine the latest technologies with real-world simulations and advanced therapies to help you achieve your goals. Your care team will include physical therapy, speech therapy and occupational therapy experts; rehabilitation physicians and nurses; case managers; dietitians; and more. While at our rehabilitation hospital you will receive 24/7 nursing care and three hours of therapy five days a week.

Kyle was admitted to our Encompass Health hospital in Mesa, Arizona after having a stroke. He arrived completely dependent on others for mobility and daily activities. Through hard work and family support, Kyle went from using a power wheelchair to walking independently in just one week. During his rehabilitation, he practiced kneeling with his therapy team so he could propose to his longtime significant other. She said yes!

Kyle’s story is a powerful example of resilience and the life-changing impact of rehabilitation.

Roger Mims was admitted to our Encompass Health hospital in Pelham, Alabama for cardiac rehabilitation following triple bypass surgery. With determination and support from his care team, he worked on transferring from his wheelchair to bed and walking with a walker. While at our rehabilitation hospital, Roger made significant gains and is closer to his ultimate goal — getting back to hosting his southern gospel radio show.

It is our privilege during American Heart Month to care for patients like Roger as they rebuild strength and confidence after a cardiac event or other life-changing illness or injury.

Today, we celebrated the grand opening of our newest hospital. Located in Irmo, South Carolina, this 49-bed rehabilitation hospital will provide life-changing care to those recovering from stroke, brain and spinal cord injuries, amputations and other complex orthopedic and neurological conditions.

Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Irmo marks our 11th location in South Carolina. It is expected to begin serving patients next month.

We continue to expand our national footprint! Today we announced plans to open a new rehabilitation hospital in Flowood, Mississippi. This 50-bed hospital will serve patients recovering from life-changing illnesses and injuries, including strokes and neurological disorders, brain and spinal cord injuries, amputations and other complex orthopedic conditions.

“We are proud to expand Encompass Health's presence in Mississippi,” said Brad Kennedy, Encompass Health group president. “We look forward to breaking ground and beginning the work that will ultimately help patients regain independence and return to the lives they love.”

The hospital is expected to open in 2027 and is our second location in Mississippi.

Abby was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome and was admitted to our Encompass Health hospital in Morgantown, West Virginia. When she arrived, she was unable to move her arms or legs and couldn’t sit, stand or walk. At just 23 years old, she showed incredible strength and resilience during her inpatient rehabilitation with our team.

Abby progressed from using ankle-foot orthoses and a wheelchair to standing, transferring and walking with a walker. Her proudest moment was transferring in and out of her parents’ truck and reclaiming her independence.

Andrea Samuels came to our Encompass Health hospital in Shreveport, Louisiana after a stroke and a severe seizure. He was extremely weak, making mobility and walking difficult.

Our therapists worked closely with Andrea, challenging him with obstacles and dual-task activities. With his musical background, Andrea progressed in motor planning and control through drumming sessions. He also enjoyed throwing a football, which helped strengthen his core stability and dynamic control.

Andrea is deeply thankful and becomes emotional when talking about his recovery. We are so proud of you, Andrea, and thrilled with your progress and discharge home!

When Chris Daughtry was 16 years old, he was in a car accident that would change his life — and eventually his career path. He fractured his spine and could no longer walk. He required intensive therapy to adapt to his new circumstances. After inpatient rehabilitation where he worked with physical and occupational therapists, Chris was able to rebuild his life. Izzy came to our Encompass Health hospital in Charlottesville, Virginia after a stroke left him paralyzed on his right side. He was unable to walk or perform basic self-care tasks.

Izzy’s family had an upcoming cruise scheduled, which motivated him to work hard in therapy. Through an intensive rehabilitation program and rigorous family training with his devoted wife, Annie, Izzy regained the ability to move his right side, walk, navigate stairs and complete a full range of daily living activities. It was great to see Izzy enjoying the cruise with his family — a unique discharge destination made possible by his incredible recovery!

We’re proud to announce that Michelle Martinez has been appointed chief executive officer of Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Albuquerque.

“I’ve been part of the Encompass Health Albuquerque team for eight years, and it is an honor to now step into the CEO role,” Michelle said. “The rehabilitative services we provide our community are vital. I look forward to advancing the quality care this hospital is known for.”

Michelle joined the hospital in 2017 as controller. She oversaw financial operations including accounts payable, expense management, budget forecasting, internal controls and auditing. She later advanced to area controller where she supported multiple Encompass Health hospitals. Her leadership has also extended to physician recruitment, state legislative efforts and employee engagement.
