Patients who choose chiropractic first for back pain have dramatically lower odds of ending up with an opioid prescription—one meta-analysis found 64% lower odds for chiropractic users, and a BMJ Open study showed substantially less early and long-term opioid use when the first visit was to a chiropractor.
