At NMHCA/NMCAL, we believe every caregiver has a story worth telling, and worth celebrating. Our docuseries, People Worth Caring About, was created to honor the extraordinary individuals who devote their lives to serving others in long-term and assisted living communities across New Mexico. Today, we’re proud to spotlight a powerful story recently featured in the Las Cruces Digest: “From Soldier to Lifesaver: One Caregiver in Our Broader Community Shares His Story of Transformation.” In this moving episode, filmmaker Peter Murphy shares Michael’s journey from military service to a career of compassion, where caring for others became his new mission. His story is a testament to resilience, purpose, and the deep humanity that defines caregiving. Reflecting on the wonderful moments happening across our member communities is one of our greatest joys. At NMHCA/NMCAL, we cherish these Member Moments, the meaningful connections, celebrations, and acts of care that define the heart of long-term and assisted living communities across New Mexico. This week, we’re taking a moment to look back on a truly special visit. Our NMHCA/NMCAL staff had the privilege of spending Veterans Day with the residents of BeeHive Homes at Volcano Cliffs. Among their 14 residents, five are proud veterans who served our country with honor. It was a day filled with gratitude, stories, laughter, and heartfelt appreciation. Being able to celebrate these heroes, alongside the dedicated staff and wonderful residents, reminds us why our work matters so much. To the veterans at BeeHive Homes and across New Mexico: thank you for your service, your courage, and your continued impact on our communities. Here's to more member moments, more celebrations, and more opportunities to uplift the incredible people who make our communities so special.

Our hearts are full during this season of giving. Recently, NMHCA/NMCAL staff had the privilege of supporting one of our members by helping with their annual Food Drive, delivering nearly 200 food items to families in need. A special shoutout to our wonderful Administrative Assistant, Deanne, pictured here, whose enthusiasm and compassion shine through in everything she does. We are proud to partner with organizations like ARCA Opening Doors NM, whose mission of opening doors for people with intellectual, developmental, and cognitive disabilities strengthens our entire community. Learn more about their incredible work at ARCAopeningdoors.org. Thank you to everyone who donated, shared, and supported this effort. Together, we continue to build a stronger, more caring New Mexico.

The NMHCA/NMCAL loves shining a light on the great things happening at our members’ facilities. At Paloma Springs Healthcare, residents recently gathered for a special Movie Day, featuring “Being Rose,” a film directed by one of their very own residents, James Rob McCall. It was a beautiful day of connection, storytelling, and pride as everyone came together to celebrate James’s incredible accomplishment and enjoy his film as a community. Moments like these remind us that every resident brings a lifetime of experiences, talents, and stories that continue to inspire those around them. Thank you, James, for sharing your art and creativity, and to the team at Paloma Springs Healthcare for honoring the voices and passions of those you serve.
