Kate Goldblum, MSN, RN, FNP (Ret.), has been selected as a recipient of the 2026 AANP State Award for Outstanding Contributions—an honor that reflects more than three decades of extraordinary service to patients, nurse practitioners, and our profession.
Kate was among New Mexico’s first clinical nurse specialists in medical-surgical nursing in 1990 and later became a Family Nurse Practitioner in 1997. Over the course of her career, she made exceptional contributions across multiple domains of practice, education and advocacy. In the specialty field of ophthalmology, she provided expert care—often at no cost to patients—authored ophthalmology textbooks and educational materials, and served on ophthalmology-related boards, helping elevate advanced practice nursing within this highly specialized area of care.
Her leadership within NMNPC has been transformative. As Chair of the Education Committee, she reshaped conference programming, expanded clinical content, including acute care tracks, increased attendance and helped establish both spring and fall conferences to better serve NPs statewide. Even in retirement, she continues to give back as NMNPC’s webmaster, ensuring our organization remains accessible and connected.
Kate has also played a critical role in regulatory and policy work, serving on the New Mexico Board of Nursing committees and actively participating in BON rulemaking to strengthen continuing education standards and address regulatory gaps impacting NP practice.
