faculty, staff, and residents gathered for our annual Department Retreat last Friday at historic UNM Hodgin Hall. We reviewed our UNMSOM draft strategic plan and discussed how our own Department initiatives align, especially in preparation for the upcoming LCME accreditation. After lunch together discussing optimizing our Grand Rounds programming and learning, our residents broke off for their own team-based retreat, for a weekend in Taos (Northern NM) including beautiful hikes and sharing meals together. Our faculty and administrative staff spent a fabulous afternoon at Meltdown Studio working on a hands-on project, promoting teamwork while appreciating the complexity of jewelry making techniques. Thank you to everyone for your active and engaged participation - we look forward to what the next year will bring!

had a quick visit from our retired Mohs surgeon and esteemed UNM/VA faculty, Dr. Phil Strange – we toured the newly expanded Mohs facility and had a mini reunion with our wonderful Mohs tech Paula Padilla (she and Dr Strange had worked together for many years, including at Lovelace before UNM!). It is always so great to see you Dr. Strange – we appreciate your ongoing connection.

We are so thankful to our supporters in this initiative as we continue to transform Dermatology in New Mexico! ⚕️

Just in time for Nurse Practitioner Week, represented at the New Mexico Nurse Practitioner Council (NMNPC) Fall Meeting at the Eldorado Hotel in Santa Fe, NM on Friday, November 7th. Dr Luis Sardina (PGY4) updated the group on "Advances in Biologics for Dermatologic Conditions," Dr Aimee Smidt gave "A Pediatric Dermatology Primer," and Dr Surya Veerabagu (PGY3) led a great interactive discussion on "Bad Hair Days and Brittle Nails: What's Really Going On?" Thank you to the NMNPC organizers for including us, as we strive to transform Dermatology in NM through education and community engagement. Bravo to a great conference!
