🥳 It’s Random Acts Of Kindness Week!🤗
Random Acts of Kindness Week is dedicated to intentionally doing small, thoughtful actions for others — without expecting anything in return. It can be as simple as sending an encouraging text, buying someone coffee, leaving a positive note, or truly listening when someone needs to talk.

But here’s what many people don’t realize:
Kindness isn’t just good for the person receiving it — it’s powerful for the person giving it, too.
For individuals in recovery, practicing small acts of kindness can:
✨ Rebuild self-worth and confidence
✨ Strengthen connection and reduce isolation
✨ Create purpose outside of substance use
✨ Support emotional regulation and stress relief
✨ Reinforce healthy identity and values

Addiction often thrives in isolation. Recovery thrives in connection.
When someone in recovery chooses to act with kindness, they’re actively building a new way of living — one based on service, empathy, and intentional action. Those small daily choices begin to reshape how they see themselves and how they show up in the world.
And the science backs it up🔬 — acts of kindness release feel-good chemicals like dopamine and oxytocin, which naturally support mood and reduce stress.🧘‍♂️

🫶 This week, try one small act of kindness a day. It doesn’t have to be big. It just has to be intentional.👍

Because sometimes the smallest gestures create the biggest turning points. 💜

🫀 February is American Heart Month — and your heart matters in recovery.🫀
Long-term substance use — especially heavy drinking, stimulants, opioids, and to***co — can take a toll on the cardiovascular system, increasing risk for high blood pressure, irregular heart rhythms, weakened heart muscle, stroke, and other heart conditions. Getting sober gives your heart the best chance to heal and your body the best chance to thrive.

Here are a few trusted places to learn more about protecting and rebuilding your heart health after substance use:
• ❤️ American Heart Association — Alcohol and Heart Health: Tips on how alcohol affects your cardiovascular system and ways to support heart health with balanced living.
• 💓 American Addiction Centers — Heart Effects of Substance Use: Clear overview of how drugs and alcohol impact the cardiovascular system and what quitting can improve.
• 🤝 SAMHSA (U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Admin.): Resources for finding treatment and support on your recovery journey.

✨ Recovery isn’t just about staying sober — it’s about strengthening your whole body and heart. Celebrate your progress this month by choosing heart-healthy habits: nutritious foods, regular movement, quitting to***co, managing stress, and leaning on your support community. 💪❤️

This could be the year everything shifts.🌅
Maybe you’re pressing pause on drugs or alcohol. Maybe you’re deep into long-term recovery. Either way, every step forward is a win—and sometimes, it’s the quiet steps that change everything.

Recovery isn’t one-size-fits-all. It’s personal, powerful, and possible. Treatment can be the first brave move toward a life that feels more you again.

In honor of National Substance Use Disorder Treatment Month, learn how treatment opens doors—for yourself or someone you care about—and how support can turn intention into transformation.

🎉 Celebrate a Sober New Year’s Eve 🎉
New Year’s Eve often centers around drinking, but staying sober doesn’t mean missing out. There are plenty of fun, meaningful ways to celebrate without alcohol—especially in recovery.
Host a game night, plan a themed dinner or murder mystery, enjoy a cozy movie night, book a staycation or camping getaway, or check your local recovery groups for sober New Year’s events.
However you celebrate, remember: New Year’s Eve can be a time of reflection, connection, and excitement for the healthy, sober life you’re building. 🥳✨

🥳 New Year’s Eve Sobriety Checklist: How to balance staying grounded with actually having fun—because you deserve both.

✅ Before New Year’s Eve
☐ Make a plan (and a backup plan)
Choose sober-friendly activities and decide in advance where you’ll go if things feel uncomfortable.
☐ Tell someone your plan
Let a sponsor, friend, or support person know what you’re doing and check in with them beforehand.
☐ Schedule connection
Line up a call, meeting, or text check-in before and after midnight.
☐ Eat real food
Being hungry can sneak up on you—fuel your body early (HALT matters!).
☐ Set boundaries ahead of time
Practice saying: “I’ve got an early morning,” “I’m keeping it low-key tonight,” or “I’m heading out soon.”

🎉 Fun, Sober Ways to Celebrate
☐ Host or attend a sober game night or movie marathon
☐ Go to a midnight hike, walk, or fireworks show
☐ Cook or order a special meal or dessert
☐ Create a mocktail bar (sparkling water, juices, garnishes)
☐ Watch the countdown from home with cozy vibes
☐ Journal or set intentions for the year ahead
☐ Attend a New Year’s Eve recovery meeting (many run late!)

🎆 During the Night
☐ Check in with HALT (Hungry, Angry, Lonely, Tired)
☐ Keep a non-alcoholic drink in your hand
☐ Step outside or take a break if triggers show up
☐ Remember: You don’t owe anyone an explanation

🌅 After Midnight
☐ Celebrate the win—you did it
☐ Send a quick “still sober” text to your support person
☐ Get rest (starting the year clear-headed is a gift)

🎗️ Reminders
✔ Leaving early is success
✔ Fun doesn’t require substances
✔ One night doesn’t define your recovery—but protecting it does

🎄🌟 Staying Sober Through the Holidays in Albuquerque 🌟🎄
The holidays can be joyful and stressful—and triggers can pop up where we least expect them. If you’re looking for safe, supportive places to go and ways to protect your sobriety this season, here are some local resources you might find helpful:

✨ Local Support & Meetings
Find recovery meeting schedules at these great local recovery support clubs:
Central Office of Albuquerque
The Isleta Club
The Desert Club
The Heights Club
Brown Baggers
Foothills Group

💡 Holiday Support Strategies
Here are a few tried-and-true ideas to help keep sobriety strong through the season:
✔️ Plan ahead — know where you’re going and when you’ll leave, and choose sober events or meetings before social gatherings begin.
✔️ Use your support system — line up check-ins with your sponsor, trusted friends, or a recovery buddy before and after events.
✔️ Build a “go-to list” — keep quick access to meeting links, phone numbers, and safe spaces like local support groups or drop-ins on your phone.
✔️ Practice self-care — rest, eat regular meals, and recognize when you need a pause or reset.

Remember, it’s okay to choose you first. If celebrations feel overwhelming, finding support groups or a quiet meeting can be the best gift you give yourself this season. 🧘🏾
Stay safe, stay connected, and take it one moment at a time. You’re not alone.🫶🏾
