Adelante Development Center is a diverse nonprofit organization that supports people with mental and physical disabilities, seniors, and disadvantaged populations. The organization was founded in New Mexico over 40 years ago and has innovated and expanded to meet the needs of the community. The agency currently provides employment, vocational and life skills training, residential services, day services, and volunteer opportunities for people with disabilities and seniors. There's a new accessible trail in New Mexico! The Santa Fe Conservation Trust is getting ready to celebrate the completion of a new half-mile double loop Accessible Trail at Dovetail Trailhead.

There will be a dedication ceremony on Wednesday, December 17, 2025 from 2 - 4PM at 226 Thornton Ranch Road, Lamy, NM 87540. You can park at the Cottonwood Trailhead parking lot and walk to the end of Thornton Ranch Road, approximately 1/3 of a mile. There will also be a shuttle if you need a ride. If you need ADA parking or to be dropped off, drive past the Cottonwood Trailhead to the end of the road.

As an organization that supports so many people with disabilities, we love to see these efforts become a reality. Funded by Trails + grants from the New Mexico Department of Outdoor Recreation and SFCT donors, the half-mile double loop accessible trail is the entrance to Dovetail’s five miles of trails that connect to the 50-mile Galisteo Basin Preserve trail system. Almost 19,000 people in Santa Fe County are living with disabilities. Most have limited access to nature. On December 17th , the beautiful, wide-open spaces of this part of Santa Fe County will now be accessible to an underserved population, as well as their friends and families. This is part of the work of SFCT is doing to provide everyone in our community equitable access to nature as well as protecting the iconic landscapes of New Mexico.
