By Your Own Power Scrying Spell

Earth Hour is an hour observed (from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. local time) on the last Saturday of March, when folks are encouraged to turn off their lights and nonessential appliances in recognition of climate change and protecting the environment.

This annual event is an opportunity to reconnect with the world around you by dimming the electric hum. In addition, you could consider adding a daily or weekly practice where you disconnect for a short period of time to practice meditation or divination.

Select a space or room where you can turn off the lights easily and safely. Prepare a scrying surface (such as a black mirror or a cauldron filled with water) and a place for you to sit comfortably in front of it. Turn off the lights, settle yourself in front of the surface, and take three deep, slow breaths. Soften your gaze and say:

Darkened night and inner sight, grant me vision in softened light.

Allow your mind to relax and simply be. Make note of what thoughts, visions, or ideas come to you. Record the date and the results.

Removal Van Spell

This spell is fun and harnesses the power of play and proximity. Get a small toy car, van, or truck or print or draw a picture of one. Get a felt-tip pen, a four-inch candle in a firesafe bowl, and matches. Think of someone or something that needs to move out of or move on from your life. It could be a situation you are ready to move away from. On the van, write a symbol that represents what needs to move out (I like using initials if it's a person). Set the van in front of the candle. Light the candle. If you're doing this in one sitting, move the van away from the candle every few moments until it's outside. Put the van in the garbage to be taken away. S***f out the candle. If you're doing this over multiple days, light the candle, move the van, and s***f out the candle. Repeat until you finish the spell.

Use this spell to bring success and improve your life. Choose a plush stuffed animal toy that you like, and hug it close to you as you send a feeling of love into it as if you were comforting it. Then continue to hold the animal as you let your imagination wander to your wildest dreams. Imagine yourself living your dream life, working your dream job, having all the resources you desire, enjoying fulfilling relationships—whatever your personal goals are, imagine yourself achieving those goals. Then act out these same scenes with the stuffed animal as if the animal is you. For example, if you dream of owning a bookstore, you might pretend that your stuffed animal is running the most magnificent shop filled with interesting books. Let yourself get immersed in the moment of play, and play for as long as you like. Expressing our dreams to the universe in a playful and creative way creates a fluid and dynamic flow of magick that can lead to success through unexpected channels.

Hear Me Now Spell

Sound is used in magic for a variety of purposes. For this spell, use a chime or bell to tune into those around you and boost your communication skills. You can ring an actual bell, tap a spoon handle (or other utensil) on a crystal glass or other container, or use a recorded sound.

In the space where you want to boost the connection, make the sound. Visualize the waves of sound enhancing the room or area and strengthening your connection with everyone who will be in it. This can be done before a meeting of any kind or used in a personal space, such as a home or office. You can also do this in a room full of people, such as when someone taps a wine glass before making an announcement. Make the sound, say the following chant, and then repeat the sound.

By this sound the way is clear.
I will speak for all to hear.
My intent is understood;
My will be done for highest good.

Money-Saving Spell

Sometimes it feels like our money is disappearing as fast as we can earn it, like a leaf being blown away by the wind. To make your money last longer, try this simple spell. All you need is a leaf, a marker, and a small stick.

On the leaf, draw a money symbol (such as a dollar sign) with the marker. Go outdoors and place the leaf, symbol side down, on the ground. Stab the stick through the leaf and into the earth, "pinning" it to the ground. Say:

My money stays put!

Observe for a moment how the breeze tries to pull the leaf away but cannot.

You can also do this spell indoors at your altar or on any surface, using a rock instead of a stick.

Sunflower petals

My maternal grandparents got married on this day in 1941 in England during World War II. My grandad, a Canadian-born child of Irish immigrants, met my grandma in Dorset, England, where he was stationed. My grandmother later crossed the Atlantic Ocean by boat during the war, alone, with my mother (then a baby) in her arms. She was one powerful woman.

Light a black candle to honor your ancestors or a white candle for blessings. Say a few words.

Here's to love and attraction, s*x and conception, courage, grace, and humility.
To adventurous spirits who dared to love and ventured across the sea.
I honor my ancestors whose genes carry on.
May they be with me today and beyond.

Extinguish the candle.

Today, look for signs in simple places and know your ancestors are with you.

Aries Breakthrough Spell

Today is the first full day of Aries season, a time to make way for the new and rekindle our personal fire. Work this spell that harnesses the vital energies of Aries to break through the old and stale energies that are in your life. All you need is a red candle, some ginger essential oil, and something safe to burn the candle in.

Using your preferred method, dress the candle with the ginger essential oil and light the candle. As it burns, visualize a fiery ram emerging from the flame, and see it smash through all the unwanted energies in your life as you say the following incantation.

Ram of power and of flame, I beseech your holy aim. Break through all blocks and align with my will; do not stop until the chaos is still.

When finished, allow the candle to burn out completely on its own.

Ostara occurs at the Spring Equinox and represents the time of equal night and day before day begins to overtake the dark. Since today is also a Friday, you can double-dip in the energies of abundance and fertility to create fertile ground for yourself and your future projects. Allow yourself to envision all of your possibilities and choose one that you want to focus on for this spell. Choose one that you want to find fertile ground for so that it can grow to fruition.

Acquire a plastic egg to create a sachet for fertility. Inside of the egg you can include any of the following that you have on hand: rose, feverfew, violet, dried apple, amber, rose quartz, and seashells. After you have filled half of the egg with herbs and minerals, you can use it as a musical shaker. Shake the egg as you chant:

As these herbs and stones start to create my dreamscape, allow them to help my ideas solidify and take shape.

Saint Joseph’s Table

Saint Joseph's Feast Day is observed today, a holiday celebrated throughout the world and particularly in the French Quarter of New Orleans. To honor Saint Joseph today, create a "Saint Joseph's Table," starting with a picture of the holy family. Add candles and packaged vegetarian food (not meat, because the celebration is during Lent), especially fava beans. You can also place pictures of deceased loved ones there to honor and connect with them on the other side. If you'd like to be married or pregnant within the year, add lemons to the table as well, and be sure to "steal" one before the day is over. If you're in need of money, a job, or a place to live, or if you need to sell something large such as a car or a house, pray to Saint Joseph and ask him for his help in procuring whatever it is you need. Bright and early tomorrow, put all of the food in a bag or a box and donate it to a local food bank.

Smooth Moves Spell

This March, the new moon coincides with Awkward Moments Day—which for some of us can feel like every day! As the new moon is energetically a time of introspection, we might feel even more awkward and out-of-sorts than usual. This malaise can include waves of self-doubt and depression or a skewed self-image that doesn't reflect reality at all. We can use this simple spell to create a talisman to offset negative feelings and remind us that awkward moments don't define us.

You will need:

A smooth white stone of any kind
A 3-inch square of black fabric
A spool of silver thread or ribbon
Place the stone in the center of the fabric and fold in the corners on top of it one by one until you have a little bundle. Wrap the bundle completely with the silver thread, saying:

Shadow and stone, cloth, moon and twine, reveal my truth and power of mine!

Carry the bundle with you to bolster clarity and confidence.

The Key to the Kingdoms

This spell helps open doors to other realms. You'll need an old key on a length of string to wear around your neck. Determine where you want to travel, and why, and what will happen there. Situate yourself in a quiet place where you absolutely will not be disturbed. Envision yourself in front of a large door, one that leads to other realities. Unlock this door with the key, saying:

I travel to this distant shore I have never been before. Here I stay until it's time to go. Then I return, now make it so.

Place the key around your neck and enter the other realm. When it's time to return, say:

I travel homeward once again to friends and family, kith and kin. I leave knowing we are one and return remembering what I've done.

Take the key from your neck and keep it safe until next time. You might want to record your experiences in your journal.
