A New Moon Wishes Ritual
By: James Kambos

As December thins away, we are about to observe the last new moon of the year. This is the ideal time to plant the seeds for your hopes, wishes, and dreams that you want to carry with you into the new year. Anything you wish to expand should be planned now.

For this ritual, you'll need a piece of paper, a pen, and one white candle in a holder. Place your supplies on your altar. On the paper, write no more than three hopes/wishes you want to achieve in the new year, beginning at this new moon. Next, carefully light the candle and say:

An old year is about to end, a new year is about to begin,
The Wheel of the Year continues to spin.
These are the wishes I want to sow
As the new moon begins to grow.

Meditate on your goals. See yourself completing them. When you're ready, safely s***f out the candle and let it cool. Use it for other moon magic. Keep your wish list for as long as you desire. When you've accomplished your goals, discard it.

Eponalia Workout
By: A.C. Fisher Aldag

On the old Roman calendar, the Gaulish goddess Epona's feast day, Eponalia, was observed on December 18. She is conflated with the Roman/Italic Rigantona, the Cymri (Welsh) Rhiannon, and sometimes the Irish Macha. Epona rules sports, movement, travel, fertility, and physical fitness. Her symbols are birds, horses, keys, a gate, sheaves of wheat, roses, and a crescent moon.

Eponalia is a beneficial time to begin a new fitness regimen. This can be as easy as stretching your muscles or as elaborate as a full workout. Call upon Epona to help you increase strength and endurance and achieve optimal health. Wear a symbol of Epona to help you expand your physical abilities. Visualize her as a powerful woman riding a white horse as you exercise.

National Maple Syrup Day
By: Elizabeth Barrette

Today is National Maple Syrup Day. This delicious treat is made by boiling sap from sugar maple trees. You can also take it farther to make maple sugar. These natural sweeteners represent abundance. They form the foundation of many small and sustainable businesses, as people gather maple sap and turn it into various products. They also support a number of seasonal festivals and other events in areas where maple syrup is important. For this ritual, you need a bit of maple syrup or maple sugar and a picture of a sugar maple tree. First, sit in a comfortable position and meditate on the generosity of the maple tree. It cleans the air, houses wildlife, casts shade, and gives us food. Say:

I honor the generosity of the maple tree for its many gifts.

Eat your maple treat. Then say:

Taste the sweetness of abundance.

Meditate on the ways that abundance touches your life, and what you hope to enjoy in the future.

Boost Your Confidence
By: Charlynn Walls

Tuesdays are associated with the masculine energy of Mars, the Roman god of war who deals with courage and bravado. We can use that energy to our advantage to boost our confidence when stepping into a situation where we need to project confidence and strength.

Before taking on such a daunting task, prepare yourself for battle. Don clothing that makes you feel invincible. It could be a favorite dress or shirt. Color choices could include reds, burgundies, and blacks in order to align with Mars. You can also put a power stone in your pocket, such as a bloodstone. In your mind's eye, see yourself completing the task or challenge at hand, and say three times:

Power exudes power.

With each repetition, feel yourself becoming taller and more assertive. When you are finished, you can both feel and see yourself having accomplished the task at hand.

Oils and Balms for Winter Healing
By: Susan Pesznecker

We're in cold and flu season. With simple ingredients, you can make your own oils and balms to ease winter maladies and boost your well-being. You'll need:

1 or more fresh or dried warming herbs (whole allspice, cardamom pods, cinnamon sticks, thin slices of fresh ginger, rosemary, sage, star anise, or thyme)
2 clean 8-ounce glass jars with tight-fitting lids
A neutral, unscented oil (sunflower, safflower, avocado, etc.)
A square of cheesecloth
A small strainer
Pack the herbs into a jar and pour oil over them to cover, making sure air pockets are filled. Tighten lid. Place in a cool indoor location, and shake every few days. After 4 to 6 weeks, strain through a cheesecloth-lined strainer into a clean jar.

Optional: To make a balm, melt an ounce of beeswax in a custard cup and stir in ½ teaspoon of your infused oil.

Use the oil or balm to anoint chakra points, rub into the chest when ill with a cold or flu, or scent a hot bath or shower, each time repeating:

Scent of oil, herbal healing,

Hand of the mothers, anoint me.

May I feel their power.

Remembering Resistance
By: Amanda Lynn

When I was growing up, Hanukkah was one of the bigger holidays that my family celebrated, and it was also one of my favorites. At a basic level, it is a celebration of resistance and persistence, and today, as the first night of Hanukkah, I invite you to utilize that symbolism in your magic by lighting a single candle in a dark room. The light of the flame represents both resistance against the dark and the persistence to shine bright no matter what may come your way. Sit in the room with your candle and reflect on this past year. Were there any instances where you had to stand up for your rights? Or were there times when you had more endurance to face a challenge than you thought you did? Take some time to focus on the flame and connect with the energy of those experiences, and use those as motivation to keep persisting. You can either let the candle burn out completely or burn it a little each day until it's gone.

To Summon Justice
By: Brandon Weston

This is a spell to summon justice. You will need:

A black pen or marker
A piece of red paper, 4 inches square
Identifying materials (hair, nail clippings, clothing, etc.) for the person targeted by the spell (optional)
Charcoal with a heatproof holder/dish/grill
Matches or lighter
1 part frankincense resin
1 part pine resin
4 garlic cloves
Perform this ritual outside (due to very smelly smoke). Using a black pen or marker, write the full name (First, Middle, Last) of the person you want to summon justice against on the red paper square. Add their birthdate (if known). You can also attach identifying materials for the person targeted by the spell.

Light a bed of charcoal. When hot, hold the paper in your left hand and say:

Justice, come to my aid. Justice

be served against (name of

targeted person) for these crimes:

________ (recite their deeds).

Toss the paper onto the coals, followed by three good pinches of the two resins and all four garlic cloves. As it smokes, recite the name of the targeted person until everything has burned up. Dispose of the cold ashes in running water.

Freya's Delight Spell
By: Dallas Jennifer Cobb

Named for Freya, the Norse goddess of love and beauty, Friday is also ruled by Venus, Aphrodite, and Eros. Invoke Freya by doing an attraction spell using a rose quartz, rose oil, or a rose to magnify passion. Whether you choose to attract a mate, lover, or friend, or seek to increase self-love, invoke Freya. She may bring delight to the weekend ahead.

Tuck a rose quartz into your bra or shirt pocket, saying:

Freya delights in heart-centered love.

Dab a little rose oil, diluted with a carrier oil, behind your ears and on the hollow of your throat, saying:

Freya delights in attraction and passion.

Buy a single rose (red for passion, white for purity, pink for admiration, happiness, and friends) and place it in a vase on your desk or altar. Intone:

Freya delights in beauty. Freya blesses all of my life with increased beauty, attraction, love, and light.

Waning Moon Herbal Bath Tea
By: Monica Crosson

The waning moon phase is a good time to retreat within ourselves to heal, sift through our experiences, and let go of those things that no longer serve us. This is especially important during the winter months, when darker days and inclement weather can wear us down. Holiday stress can also affect us, leaving us feeling frayed and depleted of energy.

This is your reminder that it's okay to take a break, nourish your soul, and ease built-up tension. For this spell you will need:

1 cup dried lavender buds
1 cup dried hops
1 cup dried rose petals
A bowl
1 quart-size canning jar
5 x 7-inch muslin drawstring bags
Mix the herbs together in a bowl. Place the mixture in the canning jar and store in a cool, dry place.

Light some candles and pick out some relaxing music. Place one cup of the herb mixture in a muslin drawstring bag and tie shut. Place in your bath to infuse. Enjoy this quiet time of contemplation. Extinguish the candles when done.

Release Spell
By: Sapphire Moonbeam

In the last month of the year, before the winter solstice, you can do a spell to release things. First, think about what you want to release. Releasing an attachment to an outcome is a way to regain peace about anything you might feel frustrated about. Find a dead leaf that has fallen from an autumn tree. Make sure it has enough space for you to write on it. If you cannot locate a leaf, use a small piece of biodegradable paper. Find a pencil and write down the things that you want to purge. Once you have the words written down, you can say these words:

On this list are the things that I want to release,
So I may regain inner peace.
There is strength in being able to let things go.
I release my attachment so peace will flow.

Crush the leaf and rip the tiny paper. Find a place to bury the things you want to release, and be done with it.

Nature Connection Spell
By: Melanie Marquis

Use this magick to strengthen your connection to the spirit guardians that watch over the land where you live or where you're visiting. You'll need four small quartz crystals and a gallon of water. Look at a map and choose a destination to your north, a destination to the east, a destination to the south, and a destination to the west.

Head to the north first and find a patch of bare ground or a tree or other plant. Kiss one of the crystals and hold it to your heart, pouring your love into the stone. Place the stone on the ground or at the base of a tree or other plant, and pour about a quart of the water in a circle surrounding your feet. Call out to any protective and helpful spirits that dwell there, telling them your name and asking directly for their help and alliance. Then head to your next destinations to the east, south, and west, repeating the process. Your connection to the local spirits will be strengthened.
