We love this season and kicked it off with an amazing party…we know how to Mardi Gras! … the prep was so much fun for our amazing staff and the party was the perfect Mardi Gras celebration.

We had an awesome painting class led by our very own talented resident Shirley, who guided us through a captivating still life exercise featuring vibrant fruits. Using only the primary colors—blue, red, and yellow—we learned the magic of mixing to create a full spectrum of hues. It was not only an educational experience but also a joyful celebration of creativity, as our residents enthusiastically embraced the challenge and showcased their unique artistic flair. This wonderful activity, led by Shirley, truly brought everyone together and highlighted the incredible talents within our community. We’re thrilled to continue shining a spotlight on our residents’ special gifts and look forward to many more inspiring sessions ahead! Thank you beautiful Shirley!

We kicked off this week with Super Bowl 2026! It brought our community together for an epic celebration filled with nachos, cupcakes, cookies, pretzels, and all the snacks and drinks you could want! Activities Director Vincent kicked off the fun with an awesome kickoff punt to start the game, setting the tone for a night of friendly competition and good vibes. Great time had by all!

Our residents really got into the Olympic spirit with a fun and lively noodle toss game, throwing pool noodles through handcrafted Olympic rings made by our own community! They showed great strategy by adjusting their throwing positions, leading to lots of laughter and friendly competition. Ron absolutely swept the board with an impressive 44 points, proudly taking home the gold at our very first Albuquerque Grand Senior Olympics! Even Coco got a medal 🎖️

Katie Breen, originally from Atlanta, Georgia, has been a beloved volunteer piano player at The Albuquerque Grand Community for more than 10 years. Her musical journey began when she approached the activities director with a plan to play during Sunday dinners, creating a special moment to wind down the week and bring everyone together. Over the years, Katie has had the joy of connecting with many residents, including a Broadway actor and an internationally known musician, sharing her love of music and compiling playlists that resonate with their tastes. Her adventurous spirit is reflected in her travels, having visited every country in Europe, parts of India, Africa, Central and South America, as well as numerous islands and 48 US states. Outside of music, Katie enjoys whitewater kayaking, sailing, dancing, and cherishing lifelong friendships. One of her favorite memories is a six-month journey on her cabin cruiser from Florida up the intercoastal waterways to Canada, where seeing the Statue of Liberty from her tiny boat was a humbling experience. Now, volunteering has become her new passion, and she lives by the inspiring words: "Try to have a loving heart as the basis for anything you say or do." Thank you Katie for sharing your loving heart and talent with us. We are grateful!

Our community came together for a meaningful walk down MLK Street to honor Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. With our building just steps away from MLK Street, we were lucky to have the perfect spot to celebrate. The day was filled with bright sunshine, warm smiles, and vibrant energy as our residents proudly paid tribute to this important day.

Cheryl Edenfield is a cherished cook at the Albuquerque Grand, best known for her incredible dessert dishes that delight everyone who tastes them. Born in San Bernardino and raised in San Diego, she has made New Mexico her home for the past 25 years, bringing with her a wealth of life experiences from travels across the US—including Washington DC, Alaska, the Grand Canyon and a memorable Florida cruise to Cozumel and Jamaica . Since October 2024, Cheryl has been a dedicated part of our community, balancing her passion for cooking with her love of reading, bowling, movies, and drawing. A gifted musician in her youth, she earned the Best Musician award in junior high. As a mother of six, Cheryl’s guiding words of wisdom are simple yet powerful: "Put God first and everything else falls into place." Her warmth, talent, and faith make her an invaluable member of our team.

Meet our resident, Alice, originally from Hagerstown, Maryland. Her journey has taken her through New York, Virginia, California, and finally to New Mexico, where she has made her home since 1994. A devoted cat lover, Alice has been a proud mother to 23 cats over the years, embracing all things feline with genuine affection. Her love of learning shines through her passion for reading, especially books on astronomy, reflecting her curiosity about the universe. Fluent in French, Alice studied at the prestigious Sorbonne in France, where she majored in the language she speaks so elegantly. What Alice treasures most about being part of our community is the exceptional quality of the people here, whom she describes as truly kind and wonderful. Her warmth and grace enrich our community every day. Fun fact: her married name beautifully means “little Easter.“
