Position: Mental Health Counselor – Equine Therapy
Location: Albuquerque, New Mexico
Employment Type: Full-time / Part-time / Contract
Start Date: ASAP
About the Role:
As an Equine Therapy Counselor, you will work alongside our experienced equine specialists and therapy horses to support clients in developing emotional awareness, self-regulation, confidence, and healing from trauma, anxiety, depression, and more.
You will conduct individual and group sessions in a peaceful, natural setting where human-horse interaction is at the heart of recovery and growth.
Responsibilities:
• Provide mental health counseling using equine-assisted therapy methods
• Develop personalized treatment plans and track progress
• Collaborate with our equine team to ensure safety and effectiveness of sessions
• Maintain documentation and uphold ethical, clinical, and safety standards
• Support clients of all ages, including youth, adults, families and veterans (if applicable)
Qualifications:
• Master’s Degree (or higher) in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or related field. License preferred is a LCSW/LISW or LPCC
• Current state licensure
• Experience or certification in Equine-Assisted Therapy preferred but not necessary
• Genuine comfort around horses and knowledge of equine behavior preferred by not necessary
• Compassionate, grounded, and client-centered approach to therapy
