Vertical integration in healthcare is not just a business concept.
It affects real people.
Patients often feel it as:
-delays
-denials
-narrow networks
-prior authorization
-pharmacy restrictions
-fewer independent options
Physicians often feel it as:
-administrative burden
-referral restrictions
-formulary barriers
-reduced autonomy
-pressure on independent practice
-more time spent navigating systems instead of caring for patients
To be clear: integration is not automatically bad.
Better coordination can absolutely help patients.
But concentrated control deserves scrutiny.
Because when the same corporation can influence:
-coverage
-approvals
-prescriptions
-referrals
-care pathways
…it is fair to ask:
Who is the system designed to serve?
A healthcare system should be built around patient care — not just consolidation.
