Informed consent never looks or sounds like something already in motion. Huge red flag. True informed consent takes hold of the concepts of a conversation. One that explains risks and benefits, leaves room for questions and time to consider, and then the decision is up to the client. With the choice of No being a full one.
What have you experienced?

I'm still on hiatus, but this was too good and I had to share it.

These cookies have a wild story, the full version of which I will save for another day, but the important part is that they were a thank you gift to the EMS who responded to a homebirth that didn't go exactly as planned.
This is a hard, but necessary subject. Birth is a biologically normal event that almost always goes smoothly and safely. Almost. But occasionally it doesn't. Most midwives have a large skill set for handling emergencies, from watching for early warning signs, to regular training and practice for resuscitation, but sometimes a little more help is needed. In those instances, kind, compassionate, respectful care from emergency services is invaluable. It is life saving. And it is oh so very appreciated.
From the bottom of my heart, I want to express my gratitude for the best experience I have ever had when needing to call for backup at a homebirth. โค

Huge thanks also to for getting these amazing from and for the great company on the adventure to deliver them.

๐Ÿ‘ถ๐Ÿพ Congenital Dermal Melanocytosis (Mongolian Spots)๐Ÿ‘ถ๐Ÿพ

Congenital Dermal Melanocytosis are what happens when skin pigmentation gets "trapped" in the deeper layers of skin during the infant's development. When the pigment does not reach the surface, it appears as a gray, greenish, blue, or black mark.

๐Ÿ‘ถ๐Ÿฝ They are not a cause for alarm. No one knows why some babies get them and why some donโ€™t. They cannot be prevented. Itโ€™s just a birthmark. They , in and of themselves, do not pose any health risks. Most babies who have them will outgrow them and do not have any health effects from them.

๐Ÿ‘ถ๐Ÿฟ They typically appear on babyโ€™s skin at birth. Sometimes they appear a few week after birth.

๐Ÿ‘ถ๐Ÿพ when you notice them. Make sure your doctor documents them. Sometimes they are mistaken for bruises.

๐Ÿ‘ถ๐Ÿพ While no one knows for sure what causes them , some infants are more likely to get them than others; particularly those with darker .

๐Ÿ‘ถ๐ŸฟThey usually occur on the back and buttock area

๐Ÿ‘ถ๐ŸฝThe marks are flat and smooth and may look like bruises. But, unlike bruises, they do not cause pain and are not a result of an injury.

๐Ÿ‘ถ๐ŸฟThe AAP identify Congenital Dermal Melanocytosis in 9.5 percent of Caucasian babies, 46.3 percent of Hispanic babies, and 96.5 percent of black babies.
