Mama announced her pregnancy on a baseball, a symbol of something deeply meaningful to their family. So it was only fitting that baby’s footprint went right onto that same ball—a perfect way to celebrate how far this journey has come. Truly a treasure.

During postpartum visits, we make footprint keepsake cards, and families often bring their own meaningful items for us to personalize as well.

Pregnancy is beautiful, but it can also feel overwhelming. If anxiety sneaks in, you’re not alone.

Try these gentle ways to calm your mind + body:

✨ Deep, slow breathing
✨ Limit Google & social media
✨ Nourish with food, water & sunshine
✨ Gentle movement (walks, stretching)
✨ Lean on your support system

You don’t have to carry fear by yourself—peace is possible.

❤️ Save this for when the worries feel heavy.

As we just finished World Breastfeeding Week, we wanted to celebrate all of our breastfeeding journeys, no matter the length.

At Fort Worth Midwifery, we celebrate the beautiful bond between mother and baby—and the many benefits that come with it.

Breastfeeding isn’t just nourishment—it’s connection, comfort, and health. Did you know?

🤱 For baby:

Breast milk is perfectly tailored to meet your baby’s changing needs—every single feeding.

It strengthens your baby’s immune system, helping protect against illness and infection.

It supports healthy brain development and lowers the risk of SIDS, asthma, and obesity.

💗 For mother:

Breastfeeding helps the uterus contract, reducing postpartum bleeding.

It lowers the risk of breast and ovarian cancers, heart disease, and type 2 diabetes.

It deepens the bond between mother and baby through skin-to-skin closeness and oxytocin release.

Every feeding, every cuddle, every moment matters. Whether it’s for days, months, or years, your breastfeeding journey is worth celebrating. ✨

To all the mamas feeding their babies—by breast, bottle, pump, or donor milk—you are doing a beautiful job. We’re here to support you every step of the way. 💕

Pregnancy Changes Everything—Here’s What Actually Grows (and Shrinks!)

Your body is amazing—it literally remodels itself to grow and protect your baby. Some parts get bigger to keep up with the extra work, while others shrink or shift to make room.

What Grows:
✔️ Uterus → from the size of a pear to a watermelon
✔️ Heart → pumps 30–50% more blood
✔️ Breasts → preparing for milk production
✔️ Kidneys & Thyroid → working overtime
✔️ Feet → sometimes permanently bigger (thanks, relaxin!)

What Shrinks or Shifts:
✔️ Certain brain areas → help you bond & focus on baby
✔️ Lungs & Stomach → squished by your growing uterus
✔️ Bladder → smaller capacity (hello, constant bathroom trips!)

Your body is doing exactly what it’s designed to do—creating the perfect environment for your baby.

Which change surprised you the most? Tell me in the comments!

The Golden Hour: Why It Matters for Mom & Baby

The Golden Hour is the first hour (or more) after birth when your baby is placed skin-to-skin on your chest, undisturbed. This time isn’t just sweet—it’s biologically powerful.

For Baby:
✔️ Regulates body temperature better than any warmer
✔️ Stabilizes heart rate and breathing
✔️ Boosts blood sugar levels
✔️ Reduces stress, keeping baby calm and content
✔️ Kickstarts breastfeeding instincts and improves latching
✔️ Strengthens immunity through early colostrum
✔️ Less crying, more bonding

For Mom:
✔️ Releases oxytocin (“love hormone”) to strengthen bonding
✔️ Helps the uterus contract, reducing postpartum bleeding
✔️ Encourages early milk production and a strong breastfeeding start
✔️ Lowers stress and anxiety while boosting confidence

For Both Parents:
✔️ Builds an immediate emotional connection
✔️ Partner skin-to-skin also helps regulate baby’s temperature and heart rate
✔️ Creates a peaceful, calm start to life together

Should you delay newborn procedures?
In most cases, yes. Unless your baby needs immediate medical care, things like weighing, vitamin K, and other procedures can wait until after your golden hour.

Your birth, your choices. Advocate for this special time—it’s one of the simplest, most powerful ways to start life together.

✨ Happy International Home Birth Day! ✨

As home birth moms and midwives, today holds a special place in our hearts. We've had the honor of welcoming our own babies into the world in the sacred space of home—and we've stood beside countless families as they’ve done the same.

Home birth isn’t just about location—it’s about autonomy, respect, and informed choice. It’s about believing in the power of physiological birth, supported by skilled midwives who bring both ancient wisdom and modern safety into the birth space.

To the families who have birthed at home, the partners who believed in the process, and the midwives who serve with heart and hands—this day is for you.

Let’s keep normalizing safe, supported, and beautiful birth options. 💛🏡🩵

Happy World Doula Day!

At Fort Worth Midwifery, we LOVE doulas and the incredible support they provide to birthing families. Whether it’s emotional reassurance, physical comfort, or guidance through labor, doulas are true birth companions.

Did you know?

People who use a doula are 39% less likely to need a C-section

They're 15% more likely to have a spontaneous vaginal birth

Labors are shorter by an average of 41 minutes

There's a 31% decrease in the use of Pitocin

And a 34% decrease in the risk of being dissatisfied with their birth experience

If you're planning a birth, consider adding a doula to your team. They're worth every penny.

Tag your favorite doula in the comments and show them some love today!

FWM Story

Hi, my name is Ashley Stanton and I am a Licensed Midwife and Certified Professional Midwife. I own and operate Fort Worth Midwifery with the goal of treating everyone the way that I would like to be treated. FWM is founded on informed choice, respect and individuality.

I support mothers and their families before, during and after labor in and around Fort Worth, TX including Cleburne, Burleson, Aledo, Weatherford, Azle, up into HEB, Arlington, Dallas and other outlying cities. If you are unsure if I serve your area just send me a message. I am married to my love, Danny and we have a couple of children that wear me out on a daily basis, a few in heaven and one on the way. We hope to have a couple more, if we are that lucky! I am more than happy to answer any questions you may have about home birth or what care is like with a midwife. As always, interviews in person and on the phone are always free of charge. Please contact me with any questions you may have big or small. I look forward to hearing from you!
