Over 20 years ago, a pharmaceutical company outside of the U.S. created a line of topical formulas containing Minoxidil, Tretinoin, a topical steroid (Betamethasone Diproprionate, that reduces irritation and inflammation associated with topical Minoxidil use), and Oleanolic Acid (a 5-alpha reductase inhibitor). The group also developed a novel method for solubilizing and stabilizing Minoxidil that allowed for better stability, longer shelf life, and better efficacy versus previously available Minoxidil formulations.
In 2008, a group of leading dermatologists in Mexico, including Dr. Antonio Cueva, introduced these formulas to market in Mexico under the label Saude. The group performed a series of clinical trials that showed a markedly faster onset of hair growth and more profound hair growth than had been seen with previous Minoxidil-based formulas by almost all patients involved in the trials.
In 2009, Hair Science was established in the U.S. to further advance the products developed by the Saude group, with the assistance of cosmetic dermatologist and aesthetic surgeon, Dr. Mark Rubin in Beverly Hills, CA and the MasterPharm Compounding Pharmacy in New York. The latest version of the formulation, Formula 82M, is now being offered by prescription through MasterPharm Compounding Pharmacy in New York under license from Hair Science.
In 2014, following the profound success of 82m, Hair Science launched a non-prescription hair loss shampoo, 82S, containing the botanically-derived 5-α reductase inhibitor, Serenoa Repens (Saw Palmetto), along with an array of natural conditioners and amino acids shown in scientific studies to strengthen hair and stimulate hair fiber growth. 82S Hair Loss Shampoo is currently available through Hair Science-partnered medical spas, hair restoration clinics, doctor offices, and select hair salons throughout North America.
