Maternity Leave Announcement:

I will be out on maternity leave for the months of June and July, retuning part-time in August and full time in September. I'll be checking and respond to emails, messages, and phone calls as soon as possible throughout my leave.
-New families may join the list to begin services in August or September when I return. Reach out with your information and I'll get back to you to get set up.
-Current families will receive an email from me in July to schedule for my return.

Follow the Leader
This can be played by walking around, or following the leader with using toys around the house.

-Practice following directions about where to go
-The leader can also create a treasure hunt about things to find or what to do with toys/objects

Hula Hoops
Hula hoops can be used for so much more than traditional "hula hooping" around your waist! Have some fun being creative.

Roll them back and forth
Set them around and have a jumping contest
Use them as targets when throwing balls

Practice target vocabulary while engaging in the activity of your choice.
Jump, roll, spin, catch, hit, throw, inside, outside, miss, etc.

Go for a Walk 🚶‍♀️🚶
Take some time to go on a casual walk, leaving time to explore and make stops.

-Use your imaginations when looking at objects along the way and ask "I wonder what this is?"
-Talk about what you hear and see
-Play "I Spy" to target vocabulary and descriptive words
-Turn it into a scavenger walk

Books 📚
Books are great for children of all ages! When reading, children are repeatedly, exposed to many words. The illustrations on the pages add meaning to the words they are hearing or reading.

-If your child is not able to read, read to them! Or look at the pictures and ask them to tell you a story based on what they see.
-Talk about the pictures on each page, pointing to objects/actions, asking questions, and sharing stories.
-Ask you child to retell you the story, they may look back at the pictures to help them remember and to provide greater detail.
-Connect the story to events that have happened in your child's life, if applicable.

Nature Art 🌿🍁
Explore the outdoors and collect treasures to create some nature art with (leaves, petals, flowers, sticks, grass, rocks). Then use those treasures to create an art piece.

-Talk about what you found, and practice using describing words (size, color, texture)
-Talk about where you found each of the objects
-Practice following directions while creating the art pieces

Some art piece ideas that children love:
-Nature crowns
-Make stamps out to the flowers and leaves
-Place the flowers/leaves under a paper and color over it to see their outlines and textures

Chalk 🖍

-Draw pictures that include the speech sounds your child is working on
-Make up stories about what you are drawing to work on expanding language
-Sort the chalk by color or size
-Take turns being the leader and giving instructions for the other person to draw to practice following directions
-Talk about details of what you are drawing and make comparisons to build vocabulary "This color is yellow, like the sun."

Sand Play 🪣
Play in a sandbox or at the beach ⛱ - You can play with objects, build a sandcastle, and so much more! Let your children use their imaginations and follow their lead.

-Model vocabulary: dig, sand, soft, pour, build, castle, dump, pack, shovel
-Practice following directions:
1-Step Directions- "Fill the bucket." "Use the blue shovel"
2-Step Directions- "Get water after you dump out the sand."
-Find shells or other objects and practice spatial concepts (on, next to, under, in front of, behind, etc).
-Practice taking turns
-Encourage asking for help, waiting for them to ask

Bubbles!
Who doesn't love bubbles?!

There's so many language concepts you can target while playing with bubbles:
-Model vocabulary words such as blow, pop, up, down, big, little
-Encourage requesting: "more please" or "more bubbles"
-Work on location words by blowing bubbles up high, down low, chase them around, or blow them on/under/next to/ect. certain objects.
-Practice taking turns
