“Is therapy for me?”
I’ve been asked this question a lot over the years, both from new clients and from people considering counseling. My answer is always the same, everyone can use someone to talk to every now and then. Therapy isn’t about extreme problems and rapid solutions. It’s not something that is only meant for a person in crisis or someone who has serious mental health issues. Therapy is a safe space for people to voice their thoughts, concerns, and fears in a judgement free zone. Sometimes we all just need someone to listen to our hidden self or those intrusive thoughts that just keep cycling our brain. There are even moments in sessions where we just need to silently sit with our eyes closed, take a deep breath, and just be for a little bit. At the end of the day, therapy is really about being honest with yourself by saying “I’m a human who needs other humans, and that’s ok”. If you need a therapist, have someone in mind and are having trouble getting started, or have questions about therapy, reach out. I don’t have all the answers, but I love research.
