Who is the biggest cheerleader in your life? My suggestion of who should be, may surprise you!

As a Holistic Wellness Coach, I have learned many things that I was uncertain I really believed when I first heard. A big one was, "We have to love ourselves before we can truly love anyone else." To do that, we must change how we speak to the person we talk with most, ourselves, through our internal conversations.

I'm sure I rolled my eyes and muttered "whatever" under my breath, "I'm sure I'm fine". However, after that seed was planted, I noticed that the conversation inside my head was pretty bad; I could never imagine saying the things I was saying to myself to the people I loved. I tended to blame myself for everything and call myself horrible names, things like "stupid idiot" or "worthless piece of sh*t." Humph, wow...

The more I became aware of my internal dialogue, the more I began to ask myself questions. Why would I say that? I would never let my kids say that to each other. Where did these come from? As I analyzed these thoughts and began to challenge them each time they came up, I learned to change the dialog. Granted, this took a long time and much self-awareness, but I have learned to re-write the script.

After much soul-searching, I reflected on what I felt I was missing and needed to hear. I needed to give myself permission to feel proud of where I have come from and who I am becoming. At first, this felt arrogant and haughty; as Christians, we are taught pride is a bad thing, but it brought me to tears every time I thought about it.

So, I began to write the phrase that spoke to me in places I would see it regularly and smile when I saw it. A simple reminder: "I'm SO proud of you!" I began to become my own cheerleader, and I noticed things began to change for me. I am proud of myself, my journey thus far, and my hope for my future destination.

I challenge you to take your thoughts captive and notice how healthy your relationship is with yourself. Flip your script and love yourself a little more today than you did yesterday. Write your truth and become your own cheerleader!

Do an internet search for ‘weight loss,’ and you’re likely to be bombarded with contradicting headlines.

The marketing world of weight loss often plays on our emotions and desire to improve and try to get our money (and attention) with ‘quick fixes’ like pills, teas, and diet plans.

Unfortunately, there is no fast or easy way to lose weight. But that doesn’t mean it isn’t a worthwhile goal! There are endless benefits of shedding pounds—from improving self-esteem to reducing the risk of disease.

My first piece of advice—diets that seem too good to be true, ARE too good to be true!

How many diet books do you have lying around the house? How much time have you spent on gimmicky diets? Some claim the key is to eat less and exercise more, others that low fat is the only way to go, while others prescribe cutting out carbs. So, what should you believe?

The sad truth is there is no simple solution. There is no magic pill that will solve your diet woes nor is there a one-size-fits-all solution. Since our bodies respond differently to different foods, what works for one person may not work for you. So, don’t get too discouraged if a diet that worked for somebody else doesn’t work for you.

Today’s task is to get rid of any diet skeletons lurking in your closets. Gather all of your diet paraphernalia, snap a pic to share with the group, and say goodbye for good! Offer your goodies to a friend or donate to a thrift store - you don’t need ‘em!

“Only I can change my life, no one can do it for me”

Weight gain is the one thing we can’t blame on anyone else. It’s up to us to make the time to workout, make good food choices, and stick to healthy habits.

The most powerful tool you have is the ability to say ‘No’. This simple word can be so hard! After all, who wants to miss out? However, saying no to your friends and family when they lure you into unhealthy habits may be your greatest untapped tool!
