March is Self-Harm Awareness Month — a reminder that not all pain is visible.

Many people who struggle don’t talk about it. They may look “fine,” show up to work, care for others, and keep moving forward — all while carrying something heavy inside.

Self-harm is often connected to overwhelming emotions, trauma, anxiety, or feeling disconnected from your own body. It isn’t about attention. It’s often about trying to cope.

If you or someone you love is struggling, counseling can provide a safe space to unpack what’s underneath the behavior and build healthier tools for regulation and relief.

You don’t have to figure this out alone.

Sometimes the difference between just getting through the day and truly thriving comes down to one thing: the right support.

In conversations about mental health, the word support or accommodation can sometimes carry misunderstandings. In reality, support makes a difference. The right therapy, environments, and tools can help people heal, engage in life, and grow..

Mental health support isn’t about lowering expectations or giving up.
It’s about creating the conditions where people can show up as their best selves.

In our newest blog, we explore how meaningful supports can help individuals move from simply surviving to living with greater confidence, stability, and hope.

If you or someone you love has ever struggled to find the right support, this conversation matters.

With heavy hearts, our team at Be Inspired Counseling & Consulting is honoring the life of our colleague and therapist, James Harrison, LPC, NCC.

For several years, James served clients and our community from our Natchitoches office as both a therapist and Assistant Team Lead. He brought a thoughtful and steady presence to our team and to the people he cared for.

James was insightful, creative, and always willing to lend a hand. He cared deeply about his clients, our team, and the community he served. He had a way of continually surprising us with his many talents and the depth of his knowledge.

Over the past few days, as we have connected with those who knew and worked with him, we have been reminded of just how many lives he touched. James made a profound impact on his clients, our team, and the Natchitoches community.

We are grateful for the time James was part of our team and for the care he gave so generously to others.

Our hearts are with his family during this incredibly difficult time. Please join us in keeping them in your thoughts and prayers.

If you were working with James and have questions about your care, please contact our office at 318-266-7021 so we can support you.

When emotions feel heavy, you don’t have to push them away or power through. 🌧️

Sometimes the most supportive thing you can do is pause and RAIN:

Recognize what you’re feeling

Allow it to be there

Investigate gently, with curiosity

Nurture yourself with kindness

Emotions are information—not something to fear or fix. Let them move through with compassion. 💙

You’re allowed to feel and take care of yourself at the same time.

🎉 Celebrating 4 Years with Melissa McKinney, LCSW-BACS! 🎉

This week, we’re celebrating four years of service with Melissa, and we couldn’t be more grateful for the care, compassion, and steady presence she brings to our team.

When you find yourself crashing out… it’s often your nervous system waving a white flag.

Big emotions don’t mean you’re failing—they mean something needs attention, regulation, or support. Whether it shows up as overwhelm, shutdown, irritability, or tears, there are tools that can help you come back to center.

Tiffany Rogers, LPC, at our Alexandria office shares practical, compassionate ways to manage big emotions in our latest blog—because learning how to respond to these moments can make a real difference over time.

When you work together, the twinning just happens. 🤍

A few of our team members showed up matching—again—and it gave us a good laugh. It’s one of those small, unplanned moments that reflects the connection, collaboration, and shared culture at Be Inspired.

Our Story

Be Inspired Counseling & Consulting was created out of a passion to help individuals, children, and families by inspiring hope for change.

We believe with hope, anything is possible. We are here to listen, encourage, empower, guide, teach, and support individuals through all of life’s challenges. Through counseling, we meet people where they are to help them develop the awareness and tools needed to get them to where they want to be.

Our logo, the dandelion, was chosen because of the dandelion’s ability to thrive in difficult conditions. It is able to put down roots most anywhere, and it’s almost impossible to destroy. It symbolizes the ability to rise above life’s challenges, reminding us to not give up.

Christy Pennison, MA, LPC-S, is a board certified counselor who founded Be Inspired Counseling & Consulting from a desire to bring her skills and experience back to the community she calls home. With a specialization working with children to young adults, she helps them develop the tools and skills they need to bravely navigate the world around them. She helps them manage the challenges of growing up, encouraging a positive sense of self. She also enjoys working with adults to assist them through the challenges life throws their way to find creative solutions for positive change.
