Let's start with the receptionist, she was so pleasant from the first phone conversation I had with her. She asked me multiple questions and vise versa. We scheduled an appointment and hung up.. 3 minutes later I remembered something else and called back. I apologized that I was calling again but she was happy to (answer) all my questions. When we arrived for our appointment she had a smile on her face as I started to fill out paperwork my baby exploded out her diaper and on her clothes. She didn't hesitate but to get up and provide me a place to change her and feed her. Then we were greeted by Shannon with a smile on her face. She brought us back started asking questions until Dr. Rauk came in. I never felt rushed, all of my questions were answered. Not short answers either. She took time to explain everything in detail, she even shared personal experiences. I was relieved I wasn't crazy! Something was wrong and she was willing to help us. I already feel like feeds are feeling better! She truly has the BEST team. I cant thank you enough Dr. Rauk! I would recommend her to anyone.

The New York Times recently published an article "The Booming Business of Tongue-Tie"

This blog post by Dr. Richard Baxter is in response to it. I have been doing frenectomy procedures on infants, children and adults since 2018. I began not knowing that it would soon become a significant part of my practice. Now, I can not imagine
NOT doing this life changing work we do with these families.

A recent New York Times (NYT) article accused all tongue-tie providers of over-treatment, harming babies, taking advantage of vulnerable moms and babies, and, of course, doing it purely for financial gain. Tongue-tie naysayers jump on the article and share it - “See! I told you so!” and, in so d...

Dr. Rauk is amazing. I really wish I would have known more about tongue and lip ties 12 years ago with my first kid. I learned about lip ties when my four year old had cavities on his front teeth because we couldn’t get his lip up to brush so his dentist fixed his undiagnosed lip tie. So I met Dr. Rauk with baby number three at almost 3 months old when I was in so much pain I pretty much gave up breastfeeding but then my baby was rejecting bottles and would get so frustrated I knew that I had to do something and a friend recommended Dr. Kim Rauk. When I first met her she described all three of my breastfeeding experiences exactly. Breastfeeding was painful and looked so unnatural for me, I kept blaming myself and it was my fault that I wasn’t making enough milk. She looked at my baby and said he has a bad lip and tongue tie. I said that when he was born, but people kept saying no he looks fine, he eats, he is gaining weight so it isn’t a problem. The next morning after his revision he nursed and I had no pain. I was able to nurse him for 10 months and learned it wasn’t me.

I took all the information that I learned from Dr. Rauk and I now use it when I see moms as a lactation counselor. Now with baby number 4 I spotted the lip and tongue tie right away and again had terrible pain and blisters and bleeding. Dr. Rauk saw my baby at 1 week old did the revision and I noticed improvement by the next feeding and by 2 weeks all my symptoms were resolved and my baby was happier and breastfeeding looks more “natural!”
Thanks again Dr. Rauk and wonderful assistants.

We cannot recommend Dr. Rauk and her staff enough!

My son had his tongue and lip tie corrected at 2 years old.

As an infant, my son had troubles latching. He was seen by our p*p, who is a well respected pediatrician - and a tongue or lip tie was not detected. (They also check for this at birth) At 3 months old, we again brought him in to Lactation for suspected tongue tie. He would pull away while nursing and was very colicky, as well as had many ear infections (ear infections can result if not swallowing correctly and fluid not draining correctly). It was chalked up to teething at 3 months old, and no tongue or lip tie was detected yet again. He received tubes due to his ear infections - which have helped greatly, but would have preferred to try alternative routes first. We didn’t think twice when we were told he doesn’t have a tongue or lip tie by a lactation consultant. After my supply tanking and struggling to breastfeed for a year, we had no choice but to supplement with formula. (Totally ok just not my first preference)

At a routine visit, our Chiropractor noticed he had a tongue and lip tie. She referred us to Dr. Rauk and a week later, he had the procedure which went smoothly. I will say, it is not ideal for a 2 year old to have this procedure because of the aftercare stretches. It would have been much easier when he was an infant, BUT it wasn’t caught when it should have been. If not corrected, it may cause speech issues, picky eating and a range of symptoms. Frustrated that it wasn’t caught in infancy but at the same time so grateful for Dr. Rauk and her team who are so knowledgeable and understanding! While we love our doctors and trust them with many things, we learned that there are very few people in the area who are trained in tongue and lip ties, or don’t believe in them at all.

Now, our son’s speech has improved drastically and he can move his tongue the correct way! I advise any moms with newborns (or even toddlers) who are struggling (the signs may not even be super evident), to see Dr. Rauk. —Kendra Fearing
