Dr. Megan Brown, PT

Dr. Megan Brown, PT GET READY TO SWEAT! Dr. Megan Brown discovered Pilates after finding herself in an advanced class by accident.

She was awed by the method and surprised that she needed to mentally connect with her body and control her muscles in a way she'd never experienced in her typical weight lifting, running and spinning practices. To enhance her skills at a physical therapist (PT), Megan pursued her Pilates certification through Polestar, an organization founded by a PT. A bit more about Megan:

Mornin! Three tips on starting a consistent exercise programšŸ”„:

1) Do something you like. If you like to dance, dance! I hate treadmills so I don’t do that. I love group(ish) exercise so I do that instead!

2) Start small. If you choose walking, walk for 20 to 30 minutes the first few days then add on intensity (walk a little faster) and duration (add 5 minutes a day until you get to 45m to an hour).

2) Plan your day and week. I am NOT a planner so this is hard for me too. Once you carve out even 20 minutes a day it will become a habit and you’ll start to crave your scheduled exercise. I promise.

Exercise is what I prescribe. Here’s a fun activity we did in class today: comment below and list a benefit of exercise.
Feel free to ditto some I list here above!

Did you know that in longevity studies exercise was the consistent variable across all studies on why people live long happy lives.

I just turned 47 and I consider myself ā€œthird agedā€ as I’m 1/3 into my lifespan. šŸ’šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļø

I almost called this a wasted year, then I quickly corrected myself. In a sad year of absolute considerable loss—human loss, financial loss—it was a profound time of growth, change and humility.

Clients became friends.
Friends became family.
Family became sacred.

46 was likely the most significant year of my life—starting with the chaotic beginning of a pandemic and ending with hope. I’ll never look at the glass as half empty.

Here’s to šŸ”„aggressive optimismšŸ”„ and keeping the ship in the channel. We’re almost there...

We may not be able to do this in the studio, but can we bring back flash mobs when this is over?

Also, this could be scene two in the Off Broadway play...ā€Mind the Maskā€ā€”a little studio that made it through a big pandemic...

A little tidbit from my last Prenatal Pilates series. Actually, this tip works for everyone but especially prenatal women since hormones can change ligamentous laxity.

I’ve been teaching prenatal Pilates for 15 years and learn something new about my patients and clients each time I teach.

My new 6 week virtual Prenatal Pilates session starts tomorrow! We meet live every Monday at 5:30pm but you can take the playback any time! I’m also here as your ā€œconciergeā€ physical therapist throughout this time.

We are coming up on a year since we shifted this program to virtual. So far we’ve had participants from Oklahoma, New York City, Pakistan, London, California, Texas, Ashburn (Lol), and more!
