This month, we’re celebrating how the physicians we work with are putting our values into action. Nominated for displaying the CHRISTUS value of excellence, we’re honored to highlight Dr. Takazvida Nyaundi!

Dr. Nyaundi is known for the time and care she devotes to every patient. She explains diagnoses and care plans in a way that is clear, compassionate, and easy to understand. Nurses appreciate how quickly she responds to questions, and patients frequently comment on her communication skills.

Thank you, Dr. Nyaundi, for the excellence, clarity, and connection you bring to your patients and your team.

In honor of Black History Month, we are celebrating our black saints and holy figures like Venerable Augustus Tolton. Born into slavery in 1854, Tolton escaped with his family to freedom and was raised in the Catholic faith despite immense hardship. Though rejected by every U.S. seminary because of racism, he persevered and was ordained in Rome, becoming the first known Black Catholic priest in the United States. He returned home to minister with humility, joy and compassion, drawing people of all backgrounds together through his witness. His life reflects extraordinary faith, resilience and a commitment to the healing mission of Christ.

This Black History Month, we are recognizing the strength and determination that continue to guide professionals across every part of health care. For Pamela Stover, understanding her family’s history has been a powerful source of motivation throughout her career.
“Many of my ancestors were not allowed to go to school and get an education. Some were punished if they attempted to and had to work instead. This knowledge has fueled my motivation to work very hard and learn as much as I can. Success is one of the many rewards I am very proud to have earned.” When celebrating Black History Month, Pamela reflects on how resilience and perseverance continue to shape the journey towards progress.

After going for a routine checkup, Herbert Perkins unexpectedly learned he had severe artery blockages requiring immediate surgery. Thanks to Alexandria’s decades of advanced heart care, he received a same‑day triple bypass close to home.

Thanks to RoyOMartin and our Children's Miracle Network donors, our NICU is now equipped with the Tecotherm NEO infant cooling system, an essential tool that helps reduce long‑term effects of brain injury in newborns with hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE). HIE occurs when an infant’s brain is deprived of adequate oxygen and blood flow around the time of birth. The system is mobile, allowing teams to begin cooling therapy in rural communities during emergency transport, saving critical time. Its updated design is easier to use, highly automated, and already contributing to stronger outcomes for our tiniest patients.

In honor of Black History Month, we are honoring our black saints and holy figures like Blessed Marie-Clémentine Anuarite Nengapeta. Born in Congo in 1939, she became a religious sister with the Holy Family Sisters and lived with deep faith during a time of civil war. In 1964, rebels attacked her convent, and she was assaulted and killed for refusing violence and remaining faithful. Even in her final moments, she proclaimed forgiveness: “I forgive you for you do not know what you do.” Beatified by Pope St. John Paul II in 1985, her life remains a profound testament to courage, mercy and the power of forgiveness.

February is Black History Month, a time to honor the histories, cultures and countless contributions of African Americans and the African diaspora. We are proud to celebrate throughout the month and highlight Black history and culture.
This year’s theme, selected by the CHRISTUS Health Black History Month Associate Cultural Committee — “Celebrating a century of resilience, progress and education” — honors the experiences of African American and African Diasporic communities, celebrates the progress achieved, embraces the power of storytelling, and reaffirms education as the foundation for empowering future generations.

We were honored to gather with women from across Central Louisiana for an inspiring and empowering afternoon focused on heart health. Hosted by the Alexandria - LA Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and led by Chairperson Dr. Sharifa Baker Bevels, the event created a welcoming space where women wore red in solidarity and learned how to prevent, recognize and understand treatment options for heart disease, the leading cause of death among women.
When women are informed and supported, hearts all around are stronger.

Loving God, as we welcome the Lenten season with Ash Wednesday, we gather before you as a community of faith. May this Lenten journey be an opportunity to grow deeper in our faith, our love and service to you and for others. We ask your mercy throughout this season of repentance and reconciliation so that we may renew our hearts and walk in the full light of your love.

What a magical night at the Cabrini Pediatric Therapy Center! Our patients and families lit up the gym at our Mardi Gras Sneaker Ball, decorating shoebox floats, enjoying pizza and king cake, and celebrating every child’s confidence and individuality. A highlight of the night was crowning our very own CPTC King and Queen, a beautiful reminder that every child we serve brings their own unique light to our community.
A huge thank‑you to the Phi Mu -Alpha Sigma Chapter UL-Lafayette. 🩷 Their support through our Foundation and Children's Miracle Network, along with their incredible hands‑on involvement, strengthens our pediatric therapy programs and makes joyful, inclusive moments like this possible.
Nights like this capture what CPTC is all about—therapy, community, and pure celebration coming together for our kids.
