Samuel started having seizures in July of last year. Whenever he had a seizure at daycare, the staff would call his parents to come pick him up. As Samuel’s seizures became more frequent, his mom, Kristin, wasn’t sure how to manage his care. Then she found out about the Aveanna Pediatric Day Health Care Center in her area.

“We love the center!” Kristin said. “Samuel is exactly where he needs to be now. Having him at the center is a huge stress relief. I don’t have to worry about him while I work anymore. I know he’s in good hands.”

Our PDHC nurses help keep track of Samuel’s breakthrough seizures, which helps his physicians order the correct dosage of medication to manage them. Meanwhile, Samuel is enjoying all the summer activities at the center, having fun just being a kid thanks to his PDHC team.

March is National Nutrition Month! This year marks the 50th anniversary of celebrating the importance of making informed food choices and creating healthy eating habits. National Nutrition Month means so much to us at Aveanna because of the huge role that nutritious foods have in supporting the health of our patients, families, and team members. It's also the perfect opportunity to celebrate the Registered Dietitians on our team.

Nutrition and health can be an exciting adventure, with no one-size-fits all approach. Learn more about and how you can join in on the celebration at https://pulse.ly/ca0nrdfx1c

Today is International Women’s Day! The month of March is recognized as Women’s History Month, a time to celebrate the historical, cultural, economic, and political achievements of women in history. This year’s theme for International Women’s Day is Cracking the Code: Innovation for a Gender Equal Future. At Aveanna, innovation is a fundamental element in our care, and this theme perfectly aligns with that Core Value.

As we celebrate the contributions that women have made, we can’t help but think about all of the amazing women who are a part of Aveanna. Thank you for your leadership, your care, and the difference you make in the lives of the patients and families we serve.

Happy International Women’s Day!

February is Black History Month, a time to celebrate the legacy, achievements, and contributions of Black Americans that have helped shape our nation. While this month is specifically dedicated to Black history, Aveanna recognizes that the fullness of that history cannot be contained in one month alone and should be celebrated year-round. We honor those who have dedicated themselves to challenge injustice and break down barriers, so that our country can become a fairer society.

Did you know: Most people who use tube feeding in the home use either a feeding pump to infuse a small amount of formula each hour or a syringe attached to a feeding tube to administer small meals a few times a day. But what if neither of these methods work? There is another option – gravity feeding!

Gravity feeding uses a feeding bag or feeding container with a clamp to control the rate of feeding. This underused tube feeding method is exactly what Aveanna Registered Dietitian Suzanne recently suggested to one of her patients.

Suzanne uses her 16 years of homecare experience to make tube feeding easier and more comfortable for the individuals we serve. She recently received a call for help from a patient who was struggling with their syringe bolus feeding. They were frustrated and losing weight. Suzanne encouraged her patient to try gravity feeding instead. This new method worked wonderfully and got our patient back on track!

This Feeding Tube Awareness Week (FTAW), we’re celebrating the incredible benefits of feeding tubes and our team members who empower the patients who use them. You can learn more about feeding tubes and FTAW at https://pulse.ly/rx6gylnb4x

It’s Feeding Tube Awareness Week! Each February, feeding tube users and their families join together to share their experiences with feeding tubes and work to change the misconceptions surrounding them. At Aveanna, we are passionate about feeding tubes and are excited to join the worldwide effort to raise awareness this week.

While all of us eat to survive, some people receive their nutrition differently. There are various different medical conditions that can lead someone to need a feeding tube, and they are more common than you might think!
