April is Financial Literacy Month, a great reminder to check in on your financial goals and think about how giving can be part of the plan. Being intentional with your money can support your future and help move physical therapy research forward.

The Foundation offers several easy ways to give, including one‑time or recurring gifts, employer matching programs, and planned giving options like beneficiary designations or gifts of appreciated securities. These options can fit into your financial plans while creating lasting impact for the profession.

As you review budgets and goals this month, consider adding support PT research to your checklist. 💙

The Foundation remembers and honors the life of Peter A. Towne, whose nearly 70 years of advocacy, service, and generosity helped advance the physical therapy profession. A dedicated leader, Peter served on the Foundation’s Service Award Committee from 2017 to 2024, and he and his wife, Linda L. Towne, PT, were longtime donors and enthusiastic ambassadors for the Foundation’s mission. Their commitment to sustaining investment in research earned Peter the Robert C. Bartlett Trustee Recognition Service Award in 1997 and the Magistro Distinguished Service Award in 2000.

A passionate supporter of research and the Foundation, Peter’s legacy will continue to inspire and strengthen the Foundation’s work for generations to come.

"As PTs we want to do well by our patients and evidence helps us do well by our patients," says Karin Silbernagel, PT, PhD, FAPTA, during a recent virtual interview with the Foundation where she reflects on the evolution of tendon care, what her research has revealed, and tendon health as a multifactorial condition.

Karin received the 2015 Foundation Research Grant for her project, Evaluation of Recovery Following an Achilles Tendon Rupture. It was her first grant as a faculty member at Delaware, and she credits that early funding with helping set her on a path toward securing larger research grants.

Today we’re celebrating a story of leadership and generosity!

When the Foundation for Physical Therapy Research created the Fund for Excellence in 2021, it began with an idea from Stuart Binder‑Macleod, PT, PhD, FAPTA—who saw firsthand the essential work happening behind the scenes every day.

Stuart and his wife, Catriona, helped bring that idea to life with a $50,000 inaugural gift. Now, they are deepening their impact with a multi‑year commitment that brings their total support to $250,000.

Once fulfilled, their pledge will establish the Stuart and Catriona Binder‑Macleod Fund for Excellence, providing stable, unrestricted support for the Foundation’s most critical needs.
Their leadership not only strengthens the Foundation today but creates a model for others who want to make a lasting difference. Read the full article: https://foundation4pt.org/stories/building-a-legacy-of-unrestricted-support-the-binder-macleods-lasting-impact/

Meet Anne Leung, PT, DPT, OCS, a 2025 Promotion of Doctoral Studies Scholarship awardee. Anne is a PhD student at Arcadia University where her research explores s*x disparities in outcomes after ACL reconstruction surgery.

A lifelong soccer player, Anne was inspired to pursue a career in physical therapy at just 12 years old when she found out she was more likely to injure her ACL than the boys she played with, just because she was a girl—and saw firsthand how female friends and teammates had a harder time with recovery after an ACL tear/reconstruction than their male counterparts. Years later, this disparity is what continues to drive her curiosity in her research.

Drop a 👏 or 🎉 to thank Anne for her dedication to providing more equitable care.
