Monuments give families a place to go when they want to feel close to someone who died. Some people visit weekly, others come on special days, and many find comfort just knowing that place exists. We help families choose monuments that create the right feeling for the visits that matter to them. Call us at 515-295-3731, or stop by to learn about your options.

Including children in funeral and memorial rituals can help them process death and loss in a supportive environment. Inviting them to participate, even in small ways, helps them feel connected and provides a sense of closure.

You might encourage children to draw a picture or write a note to place in a casket or at a memorial service. This simple act can give them a meaningful way to express their feelings and say goodbye. We're here to help you find thoughtful ways to include children and teens that feel right for your family.

We proudly celebrate a very special milestone for two members of the Oakcrest Funeral Services family.

At the Annual Iowa Funeral Directors Association Convention last week, Mike and Brian received service pins recognizing their longstanding dedication to the profession. Mike has been licensed for 60 years, and his son Brian has been licensed for 30 years.

Mike’s peers honored him with a standing ovation, a powerful tribute to a lifetime of compassionate service.

Their shared commitment to caring for families is something truly meaningful. Congratulations, Mike and Brian!

Funerals help you find your footing when everything feels upside down.

Familiar acts like lighting a candle, sharing communion, or walking together to the graveside become stepping stones that help you move forward.

We'll walk you through meaningful traditions, one step at a time. And if you'd like to create something entirely new, we'll help you build that too.

What tradition has brought you the most comfort?

Our Family, Here for Your Family

Welcome to Oakcrest Funeral Services. Our funeral home has been a family owned and operated business since 1923. Families have been placing their trust in us for generations, and we are proud to continue that tradition. Owners, Vic Garry (3rd generation funeral director) and Brian Schaaf (2nd generation funeral director) continue the legacy their fathers and original partners have built. We take great pride in serving Algona and our surrounding communities, and truly treat every family like our own. Outstanding service has always been, and always will be our number one priority.

Through the years, we have added several team members that specialize in funeral service, pre-arrangement, aftercare, monuments and memorial items. We invite you to learn more about us, our services and the resources we have to provide you with peace of mind that your family will be our top priority.

We are proud of our tradition and continue the same mission of our founding partners – to treat each funeral with the utmost respect and commit ourselves to helping families honor the memories.

~ Brian Schaaf and Vic Garry
