The MRI machine looks like a long tube that has openings on both ends. During the MRI scan, the internal part of the magnet produces repetitive tapping, thumping noises for 15-30 minutes. Headphones with music will be provided to help block the noise. A technologist will monitor you from another room and you will have access to talk with the technologist by microphone.

What is a mammogram?
A mammogram is an X-ray test of the breast used to screen for breast problems, such as a lump.

Why is a mammogram needed?
A mammogram is done to help screen for or detect breast cancer. Many small tumors can be seen on a mammogram before they can be felt by a woman or her health professional.

What is an ultrasound?
Ultrasound uses sound waves to produce pictures of the inside of the body. These high-frequency sound waves are transmitted from the probe through the gel into the body. It detects changes in appearance, size or contour of organs, tissues, and vessels. It is safe, painless, noninvasive and does not use radiation.

Patient preparation involves removing any articles of clothing or jewelry that might interfere with the creation of the x-ray image. Many x-ray examinations require the administration of a contrast agent.
The patient is positioned by the technologist so that the anatomy of interest is in the proper field of view between the x-ray tube and image intensifier many types of x-ray, for example, chest x-ray or bone x-ray, the patient is asked to hold their breath and/or remain perfectly still for a few moments while the technologist makes the x-ray picture.

What to expect from a CT Scan

Patients need to come dressed without metal on clothing or jewelry. If not, scrubs will be provided at facility.

The technologist will discuss personal history, allergies and reason for exam prior to the exam.
