We had the joy of welcoming high school student Kylie to shadow Midwife Caty and learn more about the midwifery model of care as part of her curriculum. Kylie hopes to pursue a future in midwifery and birth work, and we were so honored to spend the day encouraging those dreams.

What makes today even more special? Kylie was born right here in this very birth center almost 18 years ago.

To see her return, now hoping to one day care for families in the same way she was cared for, is such a beautiful reminder of why we do what we do. We cannot wait to see all the amazing things ahead for her. 💙

When baby has plans of their own and insists on staying breech, we keep showing up. 🤍

Now, our midwives are scrubbing in with our patients for cesarean births too!

Midwife Lauren scrubbed in to first-assist our collaborative physician while helping to train Midwife Ashlyn, so together they could continue to care for their patient every step of the way.

At Allen Midwifery & Family Wellness, continuity of care means your midwives never leave your side. Whether you birth at our birthing center, in the hospital, or in the OR for a C-section, we are right there beside you.

Let’s talk about the magic of the tub before active labor has started 🛁✨

If you’re wondering whether labor might be starting, one of the first things your midwife may suggest is getting into a warm bath. Warm water can help your body relax and is a great way to see what kind of contractions you’re experiencing.

Prodromal labor, Braxton Hicks, and early contractions will often slow down or fade with simple measures like emptying your bladder, drinking water, lying down, or soaking in the tub. If contractions ease with these things, it’s usually a sign that active labor hasn’t quite begun yet.

Every labor looks a little different, so if you’re unsure, always call your midwife. In the meantime, the tub can be a simple and helpful way to check in with what your body is doing.

With the current freeze in DFW, our birth center remains open for patients who go into labor.

If you think labor may be starting this weekend:
• Call your midwife early
• Plan to leave earlier for safer travel
• Drive slowly and cautiously
• Keep your phone charged and essentials packed

Allen Midwifery and Family Wellness is proud to open applications for our Fall 2026 student midwife placements. If you are passionate about physiologic birth, family-centered care, and learning in a supportive, hands-on environment, we would love to hear from you.

Our students gain experience in both our birth center and hospital setting, working alongside certified nurse-midwives who believe in informed choice, evidence-based care, and honoring every family’s unique journey.
