🚨 Extreme Market Alert: Tomatoes 🚨
Next week is projected to be the most challenging yet for tomatoes as the current situation has shaped up to be one of the worst tomato markets in decades. 🍅
❗ Typically, production from Mexico and Florida can offset one another in times of crisis, but both regions are currently in an AOG situation. In Florida, freezes not only damaged crops already in the ground but also severely impacted blooms, limiting future yields. Additionally, due to multiple compounding factors including rising freight costs, Mexican blight and heavy rains + disease pressures, there continues to be a cascading effect from early harvests through current production there as well. To top things off, supply-and-demand imbalances have driven ongoing price and availability spikes across multiple varieties including but not limited to rounds, romas, grapes and cherries.
Slight improvement is anticipated after next week as recovery efforts take hold; however, market fluctuations are expected to persist throughout April as growing regions transition and weather conditions gradually stabilize. ⬆️
