Attention Patients and Friends,
After much reflection, I am writing to share that I will be stepping away from active clinical practice at Bethany Heights Dental Care. While this means I will no longer be providing day-to-day dental care, you may still see me from time to time as I help cover the schedule and provide care on a limited basis. I will continue to perform certain procedures including dentures, Invisalign treatment, and implant restorations.
On October 18, 2012, I signed the practice ownership paperwork for Bethany Heights Dental Care. My father, Lieutenant Dr. Calvin J. Spann, Sr., an original Tuskegee Airman pilot, was by my side as I became Allen’s first African-American general dentistry practice owner.
From the beginning, I have never viewed you simply as “patients.” Over the years, I have celebrated your milestones, welcomed your children, prayed through difficult seasons, laughed in the operatory, and shared parts of life that had nothing to do with dentistry. Many of you have also walked beside me through my own health journey. Your prayers, well-wishes, hugs, and encouragement have meant more to me than I could ever express, and I am deeply grateful. You became family and friends, and that is what I will carry forward with me.
In recent years, I have been serving as an Assistant Professor at Texas A&M; University College of Dentistry, teaching dental students as they begin their journey into patient care. This year, I also accepted a position in the Dental Hygiene Department at Collin College. It brings me great joy to play a small role in shaping the future of our profession.
Although I am stepping away from active clinical care, please continue placing your trust in the exceptional team at Bethany Heights Dental Care under Dr. Smith’s leadership, with Dr. Smith and Dr. Ramirez serving as the primary dentists for our patients. I encourage you to join me in continuing your care at our practice. This practice has always been rooted in integrity, excellence, and genuine compassion, and I know you remain in capable hands.

You have given me purpose, joy, and memories that I will treasure always. Dentistry remains a part of who I am, and it has truly been one of the greatest honors of my life to serve as your dentist.
