✨ Improve Your Shoulder Mobility & Posture — Right From Home ✨

Spending long hours sitting, driving, or scrolling can take a toll on your shoulders and posture. Try these 3 simple stretches to help open things up and move better:

🔹 Bilateral Shoulder External Rotation
Activates postural muscles and helps counter rounded shoulders

🔹 Wall Slides into Flexion
Improves overhead mobility and shoulder coordination

🔹 Doorway QL Stretch
Releases side-body tension that can impact shoulder mechanics and posture

Consistency matters — small daily habits can lead to big improvements over time 💪

⚠️ Disclaimer: These exercises may not be appropriate for everyone. Please consult with your Physical Therapist before trying these stretches at home to ensure they’re safe and appropriate for your specific condition.

It doesn't take long for muscle growth to slow down or reverse when you don't stay consistent - Make sure you're making time for exercise! 💪

The holidays can bring extra stress, food noise, and overwhelm. 💛

If emotional eating or food decisions start to feel heavy, pause and ground yourself—notice what you can see, feel, hear, smell, and taste. There’s no “perfect” way to eat this season.

And if eating disorder or emotional eating thoughts feel louder, please lean on your care team. That’s what we’re here for—to support you through it. You don’t have to do this alone. 🤍

From a therapist’s perspective: post-surgery healing is not a race 🕊️
Every body responds differently, and comparing your recovery to someone else’s can create unnecessary stress and slow progress.

What truly supports recovery after surgery:
✨ A positive, patient mindset
✨ Gratitude for small daily improvements
✨ Celebrating movements or activities you couldn’t do before
✨ Proper rest without guilt
✨ Staying well hydrated to support tissue healing

Healing happens when you respect your body’s timeline and stay present in the process 🤍
Trust the process. Small, consistent steps lead to strong recovery.

🎄✨ Holiday prep got your neck and shoulders feeling the stress?
At Caruso Physical Therapy & Nutrition, we’ve got three simple exercises that can help you stay loose, mobile, and pain-free while you power through shopping, wrapping, cleaning, hosting, and everything in between:

💆‍♂️ 1. Seated Chin Tucks – Gently reset that forward-head posture from hours of cooking, lifting, and scrolling. Great for easing neck tension and improving alignment.

🤸‍♀️ 2. Cross-Body Shoulder Stretch – Perfect for releasing tightness across the back of the shoulder from lifting gifts, carrying kids, or decorating around the house.

💪 3. Scapular Retractions – Activate the muscles that support your upper back and fight rounded-shoulder posture. Helps restore stability and keep you feeling strong throughout the season.

🎁 Pro Tip: Staying consistent with your PT appointments during the holiday rush is one of the best gifts you can give yourself. Don’t let your progress stall—this is when your body needs support the most!

✨ As always, check with your therapist to make sure these exercises are right for you.

We often set huge, unrealistic goals—especially around the holidays—and then feel defeated when we can’t keep up. But real progress comes from small, doable steps you can follow through with. Don’t underestimate the power of simple habits. Small goals aren’t “less”… they’re the foundation that keeps you moving forward. 💛✨

1. You maintain your progress and avoid setbacks

When you skip sessions, stiffness, pain, or weakness can return quickly. Staying consistent helps you keep the strength, mobility, and improvements you’ve already worked hard for.

2. You manage holiday stress on your body

December usually means more traveling, standing, lifting, cooking, shopping, and less routine. PT helps you keep your body aligned, supported, and moving safely so you don’t flare up old injuries.

3. You stay accountable to your goals

Whether your goal is less pain, better mobility, or getting stronger, physical therapy helps you stay focused—especially during a busy season where routines easily fall apart.

✨ Hosting the holidays can take a toll on your back! ✨

From lifting decorations to hours of cooking and entertaining, your lower back and spine can tighten up fast this time of year. Here are a few simple stretches to help combat stiffness and keep you moving well through the season:

🔹 Child’s Pose – Great for easing tension in your lower back.
🔹 Seated Lumbar Flexion Stretch – Gently opens the low back and helps relieve stiffness from standing or cooking for long periods.
🔹 Cat–Cow – Mobilizes the spine and boosts circulation after long periods on your feet.

This is also the perfect time of year to stay consistent with your treatment appointments so you don’t lose the progress you’ve worked so hard for. Your body deserves to feel its best going into the new year! 💪🎄

Disclaimer: Always check with your physical therapist to make sure these stretches are appropriate for you and your condition.

✨ Progress happens one appointment at a time. Stay consistent with your PT—your future self will thank you! 💪

If the holidays make your relationship with food harder… you’re not alone.

Don’t wait for January to take care of yourself.
Keep your appointments. Show up imperfectly. Stay consistent.

That’s where real healing happens. 🌿
