🌟Physical therapy Patient of the Month🌟
Meet Porter, our January Patient of the Month!!

Porter came to OAA Physical Therapy because, after a wrist fracture a few years ago, he developed osteomyelitis, which needed to be treated with Hand Therapy. 🖐️🧑‍⚕️🩺

Porter’s biggest goal is to get back to playing sports like basketball, football, and lacrosse! 🏀🏈🥍He also is happy that writing in school will be much easier for him now! 📝

The most enjoyable part of coming to therapy for Porter, was getting out of school early (relatable, right?) 📚🏫🎒 and working with OTR/L, CHT, John Farabaugh! 😀⭐

After PT, Porter is looking forward to getting back to playing basketball at full strength and mobility and we at OAA are excited to see him do that! 🏀⭐

Congrats, Porter! We are so proud of you! ⭐👏🩵

Hitting the slopes this winter? ⛷ One of the most common hand injuries we see is Skier’s Thumb—a tear of the ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) at the base of the thumb. It often occurs when a skier falls while holding a ski pole, forcing the thumb away from the hand.

⚠️ Symptoms may include pain, swelling, bruising, weakness, and difficulty gripping.

Early evaluation is important. While mild injuries may be treated with immobilization, complete ligament tears often require surgery for proper healing.

Since it seems a big winter storm is headed our way, we wanted to share some shoveling and snowblowing tips from our Physicians!
