Preparing for a holiday season full of travel? Whether you are catching a flight or road tripping across state lines, good biomechanics make all the difference in staying comfortable and pain-free.

Start by aligning your spine in your seat: sit with your hips all the way back in the seat, your feet flat on the floor, and knees at or below hip level. If you experience back pain, it may help roll a towel or pillow at the small of your lower back to help support your spine’s natural curve. Take breaks often to stretch and walk around.

Lifting bags into an overhead bin? Draw your belly button towards your spine before you lift. Add a slight bend in your knees to avoid arching your back. Once your bag is at chest level, the motion should be a press up from your shoulders. Avoid swinging and jerking movements.
